THE ELECTRIC TRAMWAYS.

TO THE EDITOR. v-..V. , Sir,—As a resident of.Epsom, lam very anxious to know if "matters between the Epsom Road Board and the Auckland Electric Tramway Company • have been satisfactorily arranged, and if not, why not? Is the lino from - Newmarket to Onehunga : included in tho present scheme? Those are questions that every resident who intends to travel by the line has, a right to know, therefore I would propose that a public meeting be called at an early date, in some central position, say. the Epsom Hall, so that all interested might have an opportunity of discussing the position, and if there be any difficulty, let the residents know what it is, and see if it cannot bo overcome. This is a question of big importanco to every traveller in the district, and ought not to' bo'decided without being well ventilated. At present it appears that the road boards have the power to arrange terms, etc., but it is quite possible the majority of the ratepayers might not be in aciord with the Board, and it is possible there might bo personal feeling between members of the Board and Mr. Bingham or his representatives, that may be the cause this portion of the lino (i.e.,from Newmarket to Onehunga) bciing hung up for some years to come. The welfare of everyone on the line depends in a large measure on the means of transit. I hear on very good authority that the company liava agreed with every road board on their circuit, with the exception of the Epsom Board. Surely it is time something were done.—l am, etc., Frakcis Hull Queen-street, Auckland, July 23, 1900.
