ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BALLOT.

641 APPLICATIONS FOR 31 SECTIONS. A Fuimiuß instalment of King Country lands (Kawhia County), comprising 37,500 acres, surveyed into 41 sections, was openod on tho 19th inst. at Auckland and To Awamutu. Six hundred and forty-ono applications woro received at both places, covering 31 sections.

Mr. Gerhard Mueller, Commissioner of Crown Lauds, conducted tho ballot at the I own x*all, To Awamutu, immediately on arrival of (ho Auckland train at four p.m. The drawing occupied three hours, and a total area of 27,800 acres was disposed of, chiefly under occupation with right of purchase tenure. A large number of tho applicants were from Southern districts, and of these more than 20 were successful in the drawing, It is exceedingly gratifying to find how readily these lands are being taken up. There is no speculation hero, as conditions of improvements havo to be fulfilled. Tho land is away from any Trunk route of travel, and is disposed of solely on its agricultural merits.

The following are the names of the successful applicants and area, of land: — Block XIV., Pirongia: Section 1, containing 880 acres (four applicants), Charles Redwood.

Block IV., Kawhia S.: Section 1, containing 1785 acres (two applicants), W. Wardron. Block VII,, Kawliia S.: Section 2, containing 890 acres (three applicants), A. Knox. Section 3, containing 390 acres (five applicants), Miss J. C. McHardy. Section 4, containing 1485 acres (three applicants), Mr, W. W. McHardy. Block 1., Orahiri: Section 1, containing 799 acres (one applicant), Alex D. .VlcHardy. Section 5, containing 1640 acres (two applicants), Messrs. Pearson and Howe.

Block 11., Orahiri: Section ], 643 acres (10 applicants), G. S. Clark. Section 2, 807 acres (21 applicants), P. Budden. Section 4, 679 acres (nine applicants), John St. Pan!. Section 5, 676 acres (nine applicants), P. O'Reilly. Section 6, 1308 acres (three applicants), W. Gill Section 7, 626 acres (15 applicants), S. E. Komp. Block 111., Orahiri: Section la, 635 acres (fivo applicants), S. Polmer. Block V., Orahiri: Section 1, 1015 acres (six applicants), H. H. Hughes. Section 2, 1188 acres (24 applicants), Clara Oowloy. Section 3, 1293 acres (eight applicants). This ballot resulted in favour of D. Sullivan, who was not present, and, as the deposit was not paid, the second drawing resulted in favour of John P. Knight. Block VI., Orahiri: Section 1, 15 acres (seven applicants), Miss Joano S. Paget. Seclion 2, 553 acres (23 applicants), John Castles. Section 3, 598 acres (16 applicants), John Hemp. Block IX., Orahiri: Section 4, 710 acres (21 applicants), Benjamin Dunning. Section 5. 457 acres (eight applicants), Annie McCasoy. Section 6, 987 acres (27 applicants), Androw Berriman.

Block X., Orahiri: Section 1, 374 acres (22 applicants), 15. Knox. Section 2, 278 acres (26 applicants), W. McHardy, jun. Section 3, 558 acres (15 applicants), Emily A. Nichols. Section 4, 853 acres (21 applicants), W. McHardy. inn. Block 'XIV., Orahiri: Section 1, 908 acres (14 applicants), James Dunning. Section 2, 1028 acres (12 applicants), Thomas Tooman. Section 3, 645 acres (20 applicants), Robert J. Willis.

Block XIV., Orahiri: Section 1, 365 aero?. For this section there were no less than S° applicants, Miss Eliza Chestnut being the successful party. Thcro aro 10 sections left, for which there* were no applications received, and which will be balloted for later on. Those who wore misuccessful at the present ballot will still have another chance. The land just thrown open is mostly broken forest country, sandstone and limestone formations. Most of 'ho land lies between Olorohauga and tlio West Coast, and from 14 to 18 miles west of tho Olorohangn railway station.
