ATHLETIC NOTES.
FOOTBALL. AUCKLAND GAS COMPANY'S ANNUAL MATCH. The annual football match between teams representing the head office of the Auckland Gas Company and gasworks employees, was played at Otahulm on Saturday, resulting m a win for the works by 6 points to 5. Tries were obtained for the works by Dunn and Wilson, and for the'office Usher scored a try, which was converted by Donaldson. lor the winners, i.ovett, at threequarlors, and Shaw, Dunn, and Williams played good games; while on the side of the losers Williams, in the forwards, Adams (wing-forward), and Smith (five-eighths) played well. Mr. Gallaher acted as referee, and gave entire satisfaction to both parties. After the match the teams adjourned to the Criterion Hotel, whore dinner was served in Mr. Abbott's wollknown style. The toast, " The Queen, ' was proposed by Mr. Suggate (engineer to the company), and loyally drunk by all presont. The health of Mr. Suggate, proposed by Mr. J. Ewan, was then heartily drunk. Mr. Suggate responded, thanking those present, and regretting that circumstances would not permit of his spending the evening with them. Mi. Ewan was then elected chairman (ably filling tho position), and a musical programmo was gono through. Amongst those contributing songs were Messrs. Williams, Gunn, Sandea. Dunn, Rush, Doran, Gribble, and Camp, Mr. Lanigan acting as accompanist. Other toasts proposed and duly honoured during the evoning were " The Referee and Lino Umpire?," Mi. C. Shaw" (who is severing his connection with the company after a term of 15 years), " Tho Head Office," and "Tho Gasworks."
