KAPOWAI G.M. CO. In the Kapowai Gold Mining Company's mind, at Gumtown, during the past week, Bft have been driven, making the total distance driven 55ft. Much easier country is coming in at the face. There is an iron flathead crossing the face, which is carrying gold, and this has jimctioned with the main reef. The lode still maintains its size, and on breaking down on Saturday las', gold could bo seen plainly in the stone, which also gave good dish prospects.
MARATOTO G.M. CO. (LIMITED). • During the past week work in the Pa}' Rock section of the Maratoto Gold Mining Company's mine, at Marototo, has been confined to driving the crosscut east of the No. 1 level, and on Wednesday evening last the bangingwall lode was met with after driving 16ft. Where it was intersected the lode measures 2ft in width, and the average assay value of the ore is £2 15s per ton, as per the manager's wire published in yesterday's HkraTjl). This development lias a most important bearing on the future of the mine, because it proves that the payable ore shoot exists for a length of 100 ft along the line of the lode, and affords strong evidence of its continuation southwards. Driving north and south on the lode will be undertaken when the tramlines are laid. In the mill two ore charges are still under cyanide treatment, and the solutions are percolating very slowly.
