CHRISTCHURCH KINEMATOGRAPH COMPANY.

This company wore again greeted with a largo audionco last night, and the performance, was received with loud applause, which it greatly deserved. The pictures were tho same os given at the previous performances, with one exception, that being a railway scene, which Wits repeated backwards and created great applause and laughter. Tho pictures were as clear and bright as over, and thoso connected with the war in the Transvaal were loudly cheered. Tho concert part of the programme was slightly changed. Mr. Harry Baxter again took tho houso by storm with a number of new songs, both character and comic. Miss Yauglian was again well received for her serio-comic songs and dances. Tho company intend to givo a full change of programme to-night. A large number of now pictures will be shown. A matinee will be given for children this afternoon, at which all tho pictures will be shown. To-night's being tho last performance, tho company should have a packed house. MEETING OF PAPATOETOE MILK SUPPLIERS. A second meeting of settlers of Papatoetoe and surrounding districts was held in tho Public Hall on July 18, for the purpose of establishing a butter factor) upon cooperative line.". Mr. W. Lambe, J.P., occupied tho chair, and explained that the meeting had been convened by several important settlers, owing to a goueral feeling of dissatisfaction at the termination of the previous meeting. An explanation of tho svstcm was read by Mr. Sumner, from a pamphlet furnished by Mr. W. Dibble, after which tho meeting, which was of a thoroughly representative character, resolved:—!. "That it was desirable to establish a factory on tho co-operative principle." 2. "That the site of such factory should bo as near as possiblo to tho present New Zealand Dairy Company's factory." 3. "That a committee be appointed to confer with Messrs. Dibble and Butler, with a view of arranging terms for their town business." It was arranged that the committee wore to meet Messrs. Dibble and Butler in Auckland, to make further inquiries, and to report to another meeting. A vote of thanks was" accorded to the chairman, who had so ably conducted tho meeting, and to Mr. Sumner for acting as secretary, after which the meeting dispersed.

AVONDALE LITERARY AND DEBAT-

ING SOCIETY. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Avonclalo Literary and Debating Society took place on Wednesday evening. The Rev. E. 0. Perry (president) occupied the chair. The programme for the evening was a debate on, " Are the Colonial-born British Superior to the- Homo-born British?" The Rev. A. McLean led off in tho affirmative, and Mr. 11. Eyro replied in the negative. Besides those, Messrs. Nesbitt, Tail, and Styoho, spoke in favour of the- colonials, and Messrs, Thorn and Ingram for tho Home-born. After tiro president had briefly summed up the chief points on either side, tho opinion of the meeting was taken on the question, and the negative carried tho day by the casting vote of the chairman. DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. The City Hall was again well patronised last night, and (lie programme was well received. To-night a complete chango of programme will be prcsonted. The week's attendance has been phenomenal. Mr. Frank Yorko has made a wolcomo reappearance this week, and was warmly welcomed his items going splendidly. Miss Leamar, a petite sorio-artist, also caught on with her singing and dancing, and all tho other artists have been well received, especially Miss Anettn Bodni, who makes her reappearance. Mr. Halm's fine voico is still heard to advantage. night will witness tho reappearance of the young balladist, Miss Bridie fucker, and Mr. Waller Rivers will make his reappearance in "The Tramp," and Mr. Albert Lucas will recite, "Lasca! A Cowboy's Love." New songs will be introduced by other artists, and sketches and farce by Mr. Frank Yorko.

PONSONJ3Y " AT HOME." The second "At Home" of the season, which was given last night in tho Ponsonby Hall, proved a most enjoyable affair. Between 30 and 40 couples were present by invitation, and were all delighted with the dancing, which was kept up till a late hour, to the music of Mr. Burke's band. An excellent supper was provided. The decoration of the table, which was done by the ladies, was much admired. .Mr. J. D. RichIcr (the secretary) anted as M.C., and did everything possible for tho comfort of the guests.
