Horses: At the Haymarket on Friday last wo held a . record sale, ■ considerably more than the average number were entered, and the 30 ..draughts advertised, without exception, sold under the ham iner at an advance over late values; prices obtained wore from-£2O to £35, according to age, sue etc. After the draughts were sold, unbroken colts, 16 in all, were nut forward, and they met a ready sale; those 3 years off and suitable for spring-cart work realised £12 to £20; and those on the heavier side ", to n £33; an . ? pair of grey Allies, £25 and £30 respectively. Useful riding and buggy horses were in demand, and raanv changed hands at prices varying from £8 to £14; smaller horses and light hacks, from £2 upwards. ; There is a' good demand for horses and mares suitable for farm work ploughing, etc..,. We hold a special sale of tired town horse 3 at Otahuhu on Wednesday, May 23, when we shall offer something like 150 horses, many of them active harness sorts, and mares suitable for farm work and breeding purposes. Hides, skins, tallow, bones, etc; On Tuesday the average number of hides were pitched, with little alteration in value; ox hides, Id to 5Jd, the ruling price being about 4Jd; cow hides, up to 4Jd; calf skins, 3d to 5d lb. Sheepskins, fine-woolled, green, 3s to 3s 8d; dried skins, 2s to 3s; inferior and small, ,from Is upwards. A few small parcels of wool were disposed of at' the following prices: Lambs, 4Jd; crossbred, 3id and 4d; merino, 6Jd lb; cow .tails, 2s per dozen; rough fat, lid to 23d lb; tallow, £1 to £1 63 6d cwt; bones, £5 ton.

At Beranera, on Thursday, dairy cows, in usual numbers, were at late values. Prices for those at profit were from £4 to £5 12s 6d each. The store cattle advertised met with a ready sale. Fat calves, in full supply, were required. Fresh-dropped, 3s to 7s each; medium, 9s to 14a : heavy, up to £2 19s; 70 sold. Fat cattle, yarded in larger numbers than for some time past, and mostly of good quality, sold freely throughout, but scarcely kept last week's quotations, and brought from 17s to £1 1001b for steers and heifers; cows. 14s to 16s. Steers ranged in price from £6 12s 6d to £9 15s each; cows, £4 to £6 7s 6d; 280 sold. Fat sheep, short of requirements, maintained last week's advanced values. Wethers brought from 13s 9d to 17s 6d each; ewes, 12s to 16s 9d; lambs, 8s to 12s Gd: 1200 sold. Pigs, yarded in fair numbers, were no better worth. Horses: On Friday, at the Durham Yards, horses wer9 yarded in usual numbers, but mostly of a light stamp, for which the demand is limited. At the clewing sale held at Mr, R. Percy on Saturday, there was a largo attendance, bidding was brisk, and good prices were realised. The stock and implements were in first-class order. A four-year-old draught horse realised £49; a yearling draught colt, £16 10s; other farm horses from £9 10s to £30 each; backward dairy cows up to £6; the engine, £31. Beef was penned in full numbers, most of them of At quality, were firm at last week's prices. Oxen, 19s to 21 1001b; cows, 16s to 19s. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with Messrs. Abraham and Williams, report on May. 1 as to their Jonnsonville stock salei'-Fa't cattle, in moderate numbers, were generally of good quality. The bidding was irregular; a quiet tone prevailed, owing to the trade having purchased outside during the week. Ox beef made 15s to 17s 1001b, according to size and qnality. No cows were yarded. Sheep, in short supply, were well competed for. The quality varied from poor mutton to extra prime. A few pigs made up the sale, but the prices realised were unsatisfactory. Fat bullocks ranged freni £6 12s 6d to £7 17s 6d; extra prime fat wethers, 15s 7d, prime wethers 14s Id; prime fat ewss. 12s lid; second-rate ewes. 10s to lis 4d. In lambs, no prime were yarded, those on offer being a short remove from stores. They made from 6s lid to 9s 2d. Jackson and Co. report :-At Waverley on Friday we hi 1 a fairly large yarding, Bidding for both cattle and sheop was brisk, resulting in an almost total clearance. At St. Hill-Street on April 24 the cattle yards were nicely filled. Bidding for large cattle was hardly so good, while young cattle '-ere keenly competed for. Sheep sold on a l-ii with late rates. Pigs were forward in larger numbers than of late, and prices consequently receded somewhat. PALMERBTON NORTH, Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report: -We had a full entry in on May 5. Though the hacks were of medium quality for the most part, few below this standard were o - fercd. At tho earlier part of the sale bidding was slow, and most of the, horses wero passed in. The tone decidedly improved as the sale got under weigh, there being quite a brisk demand towards the end. A good clearance was therefore effected.
