ATHLETIC NOTES.

AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION. TnE weekly meeting of tho Management Committee of tho Auckland Rugby Union was held at the rooms of the Amateur Sports Club last evening, Mr. 0. Wells (chairman) presiding. After dealing with tho routine business the following arrangements were made for Saturday's cup matches: —

FIRST FIFTEENS. No. 1 ground: Grafton v. Newton, Mr. P. Mackie referee. No. 2 ground: Ponsonby v. Parnell, Mr. H. Surman. At North Shore City v. North Shore, Mr. A. Campbell.

SECOND FIFTEENS. No. 3 ground: Ponsonby v. City, Mr. E. Gittos.

No. 4- ground: Parnell v. Newton, Mr. Polham.

No, 5 ground: Suburbs v. Grafton, Mr. H. G. Holland.

THIRD FIFTEENS. No. 6 ground: Suburbs 15 v. City A, Mr. F. Murray. No. 7 ground Ponsonby Bv. Ponsonby A, Mr. J. 0. Holland.

No. 8 ground: Newton v, City 13, Mr. P. Greonhough.

At. Ellorslie: Suburbs A v. Grafton, Mr. F. Boyce.

AUCKLAND REFEREES' ASSOCIATION.

The weekly meeting of the Auckland deforces' Association was he'd at tho rooms of the Sports Club last night, Mr. F. J. Olibon in the chair. Mr. G. P. Murray was oleetod a member of the association, subject to the usual examination. Tho Examination Committee reported that Messrs. Kerr and Blaikio had passed the examination as active referees in a satisfactory manner. A general discussion on the rules of the game was subsequently bald, Mr. A. Campbell in (ho char.

A football match took place on Saturday at St. John's Collcgo, between the University Club and St. John's. The University team was without several of its players (some of whom belong to St. John's), and was beaten by 12 points to nil, after a fast game, in which the St. John's backs proved themselves too good for their opponents. For the University M. Gray, at halfback, and. Kay, Gome, and Mac Sporran among the forwards, wcro in good form, while for St. John's Clarke, Stephenson, Smith. Mules, and Craddock were most prominent. The visitors were afterwards entertained at dinner at the college After the toasts of "The Queen," "The Force? in South Africa." and others had been enthusiastically drunk, songs and recitations were tho order of the evening, which closed with " God Save tho Qtieon" and "Aitltl Lang Syne." A few minutes later the 'Varsity men woro on their way home through a storm of cheers and good wishes.
