Dtjkedin', Wednesday. The National Council of Women considered the question of the CD. Act in committee. It was resolved that the National Council of Women feels that it is urgently necessary that the Public Health, Hospital, and Charitable Aid Acts be amended, so as to make provision for the establishment of (1) special wards for the admission of patients suffering from venereal diseases, ana voluntarily presenting themselves for treatment; (2) of wards of observation and isolation for temporary accommodation of cases of lunacy and delirium tremens. It was agreed to request the Premier to again introduce the Bill for the repeal of the CD. Acts, and urging him not to allow the present session to expire without expunging the blot from the statute-book.
Miss Roberts' motion, " That capital punishment be abolished," was carried by 10 to 2., after a discussion, in which the case of the Amberiey murder was frequently referred to,
After brief discussion, Miss Henderson's motion, " ,p hat the Council urges upon the Government the necessity of introducing a Bill providing for the application of the initiative and referendum on all questions of social importance," was carried by 9 to 1. The evening was devoted to a paper by Mrs. Wills, on local government reform. The following resolutions were carried: "That further reform of our local government is desirable, such reform to ensure that all men and women entitled to exercise the Parliamentary franchise, shall also be entitled eo exorcise the local franchise;" " That it is desirable that women shall occupy seats on all local bodies;" "That effective provision be made for undertaking and maintaining by local bodies all public services of local utility, and also of reproductive works and industries.'"
