[from our. OWN correspondents.] • ' NGARUAWAHIA. , THE monthly meeting of the Newcastle Road Board was hold at the offices, Whatawhata, on Wednesday. Present: i Messrs. Bycroft, Nicholson, Washer,' and Shepherd. Mr. Shepherd was elected chairman. The following resolution was carried .unanimously:—" That
tlio members of tho Newcastle Road Board desire tc. place on record their appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered to tho Board and to the district by their late chairman, the lato Mr. 11,I 1 , Corboy, also that a letter of condolence be forwarded .tc Mrs. Corboy. Mr. R. C. Castor wrote objecting to the measurements ot cutting on Valloy Hoad, and enclosed a claim for £4 193 2d in connection therewith. • Invoices of totara timber were received for the Kowhai creamery culvert. The clerk was instructed to make arrangements for carting' the timber from Ngaruawahia to the works. . | ' CAMBRIDGE. . A SACttED concert was held in St. Andrew's Church, Cambridge, on Friday ovening. The inclement weather prevented a large attendance. Items ucro contributed by Miss E. Cave, Miss Petersen, Milts Wright, and Messrs. Bouillon and Harvey. Mr. Sharland, of Dunedin, presided at the organ. . The Cambridge school sports were held at Victoria Square on Thursday, and wero as successful as on former occasions. > ) HUNTLY. .. THE Auckland Banjo and Guitar Club cave a sacred concert at Huntly on Good Friday night, whon a pleasant programme i was discoursed.' The club items were especially well rendered. Misses Toweoy and Woollams sang solos, that of" Calvary," by Miss Towsey, and " Refuge of the Soul," by Miss Woollams being most appreciated. / The duet by. two banjos Messrs. Fountain and Lawrence, was very well rendered, and the guitar solo by .Miss Lilly Barker, was one of tho best iloms of the evening. Mr. ([uinii sang "Tlio Holy City." and Mr. Fountain tlio song " I'll Ne'er Forget," Mr. McDermott contributed ' Ora Pro Nobis." The ' concert, which was ; conducted in ail able.manner by Mr. Arthur Towsoy, was in every way a bucocss.

They are agitating for a better outlet rood to tho river, and they undoubtedly deaervo to succeed..
, CLEVEDON. • ' A PUBLIC meeting was recently hold hero for the purpose of forming a mounted riflo corps in tho district. Forty-live members gave in theii names at the meeting, and 20 others have given tboir namos since. Tlio following wore elected officers, provided tho Government accept tho sorvice3 of tho corps :-Captain, Mr. 0. A. Fawcett; senior lieutenant, Mr. L. Wallia, who for a number of yoars was the senior lioutenant of the lato Wairoa Rifles; junior lieutenant, Mi. W. J. Hyde, who was colour-sergeant of the lato Wairoa Ilillos; quartermaster, Mr. T. P. Eraser. ■ An application has boon mado to tho officer commanding tho Auckland district that tho services of the corp: be accepted. The captain elected, Mr. 0. A. Fawcott, was a member of a yeo. mttnry cavalry company and othor corps In the Home Country. ■
