AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.

7 . FIRST DAY. r The first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting, opened at Potter's Paddock on Saturday, was held under favourable weather circumstances, and was fairly patronised by the sporting public, about 2000 persons attending. The sum ot £2698 (in 10s tickets) was passed: through the totalisators during the afternoon by Mr. 0. F. Mark, who also discharged the duties of secretary in an able manner. The judge's-box was occupied by Mr. A. R. Harris, J.P., who gave every satisfaction in this respect. Air. George Cutts, in his capacity of starter, got his fields well away to time, although the last race was run in semi-darkness, owing to the late hour appointed for the start, and it is worthy of mention that if the club thinks fit to provide a programme of eight events so late in the season, an earlier hour should bo appointed for ' starting the first race. The club extended an invitation to the volunteers encamped at Epsom to lie present at the meeting, and this opportunity was availed of by a considerable number. Mr. W. Knight's handicapping, jib usual, gave rise to some good finishes in the pony events, but as regards the trotting, the victories were of a hollow nature, tho competing horses not being a very high-class lot. In the Stewards' Trot, the gelding Patron demonstrated what a lot of pace ho can muster up. After being apparently right out of it at tho cutting, ho finished at the right end with a lot of space. Victory made a runaway raco of it in the Northern Harness Trot, and Black Bess likewise in the Electric Trot. The Autumn Handicap gave rise to an exciting contest, the three placed lililiutians battling it out from the bend, the Nelson marc, Nora, managing to secure a neck verdict amidst oxcitoment.
