REMUERA ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Remuera, Road Board was , held in the Church of England schoolroom, Brighton Road, on Thursday last. There were present • Messrs. Jan. Russell, H. Johnston, Wm, McCullough, and W. J. Parker.' In the absence of the chairman (Mr. J. L. Wilson), Mr. Russell was voted to the chair. A letter was received from Messrs. S. Yailo and Sons, as agents for the Bank of New South Wales, complaining that the sluice-gate on the Beach Road had been allowed to fall into disrepair, and that therefore the tides wore injuriously affecting their clients', land. Resolved that a reply be sent stating that the Board intend making some alteration, and asking if they will contribute towards' the cost. Mesra. W. Frater and Son wrote complaining of a great nuisance caused by the stench from the boiling-down establishment near Brighton Road. .' The matter was referred to Mr. Russell, to obtain a doctor's report on tho establishment. The district, engineer of the New Zealand rail■ways wrote with reference to a nuisance caused by the drainage from Remuera Road being discharged on to the railway premises at. Newmarket, and stating that unless steps are taken to prevent this, the Department would be compelled to take the necessary legal steps to have the nuisance abated. It was decided to forward the following reply: —That the Remuera Road Board and various other Boards which are concerned in the drainage • of the area leading into Hobson Bay, are now devising p. system of drainage for the whole of the district, by which the nuisance complained of will be removed. A petition was received from the residents and property-owners in Westbourne Crescent, with reference to the state of that road, and asking the Board to take the same over and form it, the petitioners being agreeable to contribute £11. Tho matter was referred to Messrs. Johnston mid McCullough, who were asked to inspect the road and report at next meeting. It was decided to supply the gas to a lamp -in Sea View Road.' provided the residents provide tho lamp. The foreman's report on the work for the past month was received, and several matters were referred to the foreman to attend to. The debit balance in bank to date was reported to he £8 8s 7d, and cash in hand £1 'Os 9d. Accounts amounting to £66 17s ' lOd were passed for payment. ■ ■
