THE GOVERNOR.

His Excellency the Governor, the Countess of Ranfurly, and the viceregal party attended Divine service yesterday morning, at St. Paul's Church (Canon Nelson). Tho vice-regal party will be present today at the interprovincial cricket match, Auckland v. Wellington, in the Domain. His Excellency the Governor received the following cablegram last night in reply to cablegrams of congratulation sent to the Prince of Wales at his ■■' fortunate escape from attempted assassination :— "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales thanks the Governor, Ministry, and people of New Zealand for their kind cablegram of congratulations." Tin; president (if tho Jewish community, Wellington (Mr. .Solomon H. Myers), telegraphed through the Governor to His Royal Highness on the samo matter, and in congratulatory terms. His Royal Highness has desired His Excellency the Governor to thank the Jewish community of Wellington lor their kind congratulations. .

Mr. Hugh Boscawen, formerly an officer in H.M. Navy on the New Zealand station, has been appointed honorary aide-de-camp for Auckland to His Excellency the Governor vico Captain Carl Schmitt, N.Z.M., recently deceased. " . Negotiations have been practically closed by His Excellency for a residence in Dunedin during the months of November, December, and the first two months of the coming year, returning to Auckland in March next. ' Lord Ranfurly's present intention is to proceed southward immediately after the close of the session of Parliament, With a view of His Excellency becoming as well acquainted with the scenery and colonists of the South as he is already with the scenery and colonists of the Northern portion of tho colony. This resolve of the Go-vernor-will be greatly appreciated by the colonists of Olago and by the citizens of Dunedin. '.
