New Zeaiand Herald Office, Wednesday evening. Messrs. R. Arthur and Co. sold by auction to-day an allotment, having a frontage of 271 6in to Franklin Road, with a depth of 100 ft, with a seven-roomed house, for £430. An allotment in Milton Road, Mount Koskill, 50ft by 167 ft 7in, brought £56. Messrs. S. Cochrane and Son offered by auction to-day an improved farm of 150 acres at Taupiri, but the bidding not reaching tho reserve it was passed in. KAURI GUM MARKET. The following are our quotations of kauri jjum for the week ending January 23,1900:— White gum: Poor ordinary, £38 to £42; good ordinary, unpicked, £54 and upwards; superior ordinary, £75 and upwards: Earn Coast (good quality), £76 and upwards; referaped, £115 and upwards. Black gum: Nuts, £14 and upwards; mixed, £25 and upwards; good, £48 and upwards, Supplies for 25 days of January, 625 tons. The bupply of euperioi ordinary grades is rather short, but black kinds are arriving frooly. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. • CHRISTCHUnCH, Wednesday. There were fair yardings for most classes of stock at Addington to-dav, and business in most departments, especially in sheep, was brisk. The entries comprised 2000 fat Bheep, 3000 fat lambs, 6470 store sheep, 297 cattle, and 238 pigs. A large number of the 169 fat cattle were good to prime heifers, and there were some nice lines of steers. Bidding was fairly brisk, and a good clearance was made, last week's rntes being fullv npheld-18s to 19s 6d for prime, 15s to 17s for good, and down to 12s 6d for inferior per head. Best steers. £7 15s to £8 179 6d; lieht. £5 2<e6d to £7 ss; best heifers, £6 10s to £7 2s 6d: lighter, down to £4 2s 6d: prime cows, £6 10r to £7 12s 6(1; others, down to £3 17s 6d. Nothing was quotable in either store or dairy cattle. There was a medium yarding of fat sheep, the bnlk of which were ewes, and all classos met with keen demand. Heavyweight wethers, to 16s 7d; freezers, mixed sexes. 13s 9d to 15s; butchers' ewes, at all prices, from 9s to 13s 3d. according to age and quality. With the exception of a few lines of extra prime freezors. the quality of the lambs was not so good. There was good demnnd for all sorts. Extra prime, un to Ms 6d: freezing quality.
