AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE REPORT.-Thursday, January 18, 1900.

Business on the Stock Exchange resumed on January 4, after the usual Christmas and Now Year reoefe. The market opened lifeless, and but few transactions have been recorded up to date. Money is plentiful, but capitalists are not disposed to make share investments, although stork in several strong companies would give a fair rate of interest on market prices. The annual meeting of tho New Zealand Insurance Company was held on the 10th iust., when an excellent report, was presented. Tl.ie usual 10 per cent, dividend was paid, and £10,000 carried to the'reserve fund, and a further £10,000 to the re.-insuranco fund. The National _ Bank paid six per cent, dividend on tho 4th inst. Hanks: Nationals sold at £2 16s ex div., and there are buyers at £2 15s 6d. Insurances; A few transactions reported in these. New Zealande sold at £3 Is and £3 Oβ 6d, ex dividend of 2s per share just paid. There are sellers at £3 2s, and buyers at

£3. South British sold at £2 14s, but closo with sellers at that figure, and no declared buyers. Nationals sold at 16s sd, and there are sellers at 16s 9d. Standards are offered at 13s 9d, and New Zealand Accidents nt £1 4s 6d. Gas: Auckland, fully paid, sold at £13 ss, and close with buyers at £13, and sollers at £13 Bs. Auckland, contributing, sold at £9 15s, and are offered at £10. Other gas stocks are neglected. Shipping : No sales reported in these. Northern steams are offered at 7s Id, and there aro buyers at 6s 10d. Sellers of Devonport Ferry ask £1 19s, and buyers offer £1 17s. Coals: No sales reported in these also. Hikurangis are offered at 7s 9d, and Taupiri Mines at 18s, but there- aro no declared buyers of either. Miscellaneous: New Zealand and River Plates sold at £1 2s cum. div. Union Oils

sold at £1 Is, and close with sellers at i>l 0s 6d. Lcyland and O'Brien Timber Company nro wanted at £1 6s. There are buyers of D.S.C. at 10a.

Mining: The mining market is very quiet. Wailiie sold at £10. Sellers ask fill, but there are no declared buyers. Waihi Souths sold at Is sd, Is 6d, and Is 3d, closing with sellers at Is 3d. Waihi Grand Junctions are wanted at £1 lfls, and them are sellers at £1 18s. Waihi Extendeds sold at IOJd, 10d, 9d, and BJd. Waitekauri sold at £2 Is and £2 2s, but close with sellers at £2 Is bd. Grace Darlings sold at 2s 2d. Sellers now ask 2s Id. Crowns sold at 15s, and tlinro are sellers at this price, with no declared buyers. Talismans sold at 12s, and aro offered at 12s 4d, and there are buyers at 11s. May Queens sold at 4s 3d and 4s 6(1, but close with sellers at 4s. New Whaus sold at 7d, 7Jd, 6|d, and 7|cl. Barrier Reefs sold at 7s. and 6s 10d, closing will) sollors at 7s.
