THE WARSHIPS. H.M. gunboat Ringdove arrived from Wellington "yesterday afternoon. The warship left Wellington on Friday- last, and made acall at tho Great Barrier, leaving there yesterday morning, and anchoring in the Stream at 5.30 p.m. H.M.s. 'iVuranga, which is coming over from Sydney to relieve the Mildura on this division, passed Cape Maria Van Diemeii at 7 a.m. yesterday, and is expected to arrive early this morning. THE TARAWERA. The Union Company's steamer Tarawera, Captain R. Neville, arrived from Southern and East Coast ports yesterday morning. Mr. W. K. Thom.-u, the purser, reports that the steamer left Dunedin 011 the_ Btli inst., calling at Lyttelton, Wellington, .Napier, and Gisborne, leaving the latter port at 10.30 a.m. on the 13th. and arriving at 10 a.m. yesterday, having experienced fine weather throughout the trip. The Tarawera leaves for East Coast and Southern ports at noon to-morrow. THE OVALAU. The Union Company's steamer Ovalau, Captain P. W. Macbeth, arrived from the Society and Cook Islands, yesterday morning, with several passengers, and ft cargo of pearlshell, copra, fruit, etc. Mr. James A. Tubby, the purser, to whom wo are indebted for our files and despatches, reports:—Tho Ovalau left Auckland at 7.30 p.m. on tho 21st lilt., and reached Rarotonga on tho 28th, leaving the same date for Papeete, which port was reached at 9.30 a.m. 011 the Ist inst. Departed at 9:50 p.m. on tho 2nd, and anchored off the Island of Aitutaki at 9 a.m. on tlio sth, and left the same date at I p.m. Reached Rarotonga at 9 a.m. on tho 6th, and departed for Auckland at 2 a.m. on the 7th. arriving at 6.31 a.m. yesterday. Experienced fine weather throughout the round voyage. The Ovalau goes up to Chelsea this morning to tako in consignments of sugar for Greymoutli and Westport, for which port she leaves at 5 p.m. THE WOOSUNG. Tho iron barque Woosung belonging to Mr. George Niccol. of this city, arrived from Lyttelton. yesterday, with a cargo of general produce, anchoring off Orakei Point. Captain John Bushell reports that the r oosung sailed from Lyttelton 011 the 2nd inst., and experienced fresh north-east winds to the East Cape, which was passed on the Btht: thence to arrival, strong south-west and south winds. Tho barque will be. towed up and berthed at the wharf this morning to discharge. THE WAIMATE. The New _ Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Waimate, which left Wellington on October 29, arrived at Gravesend on Wednesday last. THE RUAHINE. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Eualiine. left Plymouth on the 13tli inst.. for Capetown, Hobart, Wellington, and Lyttelton. She carries several hundred Imperial troops for Capetown, in addition to the New Zealand passengers.

CRUISE OF THE .SOUTHERN CROSS. The Melanesian Mission yacht Southern Cross, Captain Martin Huggett, arrived from an extended crniso to the south-western Pacitic yesterday afternoon. The master reports: The Southern Cross left Auckland for Norfolk Island on July 12, and arrived there on the 16th; left again on the 22nd for the New Hebrides with the Right Rev. Bishop Wilson, the Rev. T. C. Cullwick, the Rev W. H. Edgell, Mr. T. A. Williams, and 48 Melanesians. Arrived at Kaga (Penteccst) on the 28th, and called at the different mission Stations in the group, leaving Mr. Edgeli at Labareri (Aurora). j Oil August 2 left for the Banks Group, where, alter visiting the various stations, we left Mr. Cullwick at Mota on the 11th. Arrived at the, Torres on the 12th, leaving the same evening for Santa Cruz, where we arrived on the 14th. Left the Rev. Mr. O'Ferrell at the Reef Islands 011 the 15th. Arrived at Ulana (Solomon Island) on the 17th, Tulagi (Florida) oil the 19th, anchoring at Siota the same evening. Left Siota on the 22nd for San Cristovat, picking up the Rev. R. P. Wilson, and took him round his district. Anchored at Ulana on the 26th, and left for Maylata on the 28th. Called at Saa Roas and Port Adam, and left the latter place the next day lor Atta Cove, and anchored in Coleridge Bay on the 31st. Here we watered ship. On September 1 called at Fepu, and from there went on to Siota, where we arrived at 5 p.m. Left early the neit morning for Nagataiu, and picked up the Rev. H. Welcliman at Sepi, anchoring at Valavu at 6 p.m. Left Valavu on the sth; called at Sepi, Reisepi, and Haiiale on the 6th; called at Gau, liesepi, Scpi. and Nagataiu, leaving tlio latter place at 9 p.m. for Guadalcanal*. Spent next day at Vaturanga, and from there called at three new places down the coast. Returned to Gavotu on the 9th, and went through the tut ha the same day. Left on the 12tn for Tuego (Guadalcanal 1 ), and returned next day to Gavotu for coal. Left Siota on the 14th for Ulana, leaving the Revs. 11. elchman and R. P. Wilson at Siota. and taking the Rev. R. B. Comins on with us. Arrived at Ulana on the 16th. and left the same date for Santa Cruz. Arrived at Nupani on the 25th, after a rough and wet passage. Picked up the Rev. Mr. O'Ferrell, and cleared out for the Torres on the 26th. Anchored at Vipaka on the 30th, and left for the Banks Group oil October 2. Picked tile Rev. Mr. Cullwick up at Motu oil the 3rd, and left him at Meralav on tile 9th, anchoring, the same evening at Lakareri (Maiwo). Picked up the Rev. Mr. Edgeli, and left him and Mr. T. A. Williams at the south end of Pentecost, and cleared for Vila, where we arrived 011 the 12th. Left the next day for Norfolk Island, and arrived there on the 22nd. Left on the 24th for Pentecost, where we arrived 011 November 2. Picked up Mr. Cullwick on tho 4th. and called at one or two places in the Torres, and left Torres for the Banks Group on the 9th. Called at Ureparapara. Vanualava, Motlav, Gana, Meres, Mota, and Meralav. Saw the Queensland labour vessel Sydney Belle lying at Gana 011 November 17. Anchored at Maiwo on the 18th. Loft the Rev. Mr. Edgell (who is staying down this summer) at Pentecost on the 23rd, arrived at Norfolk Island 011 the 3rd hist., and waited for tlio Sydney steamer, which was expected daily. The steamer arrived on the 9th. bringing the Right Rev. Bishop Julius, Mrs. Julius, and Mr. Ninde for Norfolk Island, and Captain Williams, of the s.s. Ysabel, wished to be reported ail well. Left for Auckland on the 9th, and experienced calms and light northerly winds until sighting the North Cape, 011 the 13th; thence to port moderate northerly winds prevailed.
