ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.
THE GAIETY COMPANY. The City Hall was well patronised last evening, when the Gaiety Company appeared in a partial change of programme, the new items by the various artists meeting a most favourable reception. To-night and on Friday the same programme will be repeated, and on Saturday there will be another change, when the' Jones Brothers (three) ivill make their first appearance in a number of favourite negro plantation sketches, in which they have earned a deservedly high reputation, and Miss Carter, late of the Curtis Minstrels, will also appear with the company. On Monday evening a, huge double " biil" by the combined strength of the Nos. 1 and 2 % companies, will be given, the latter company joining the town members after a most successful Southern tour.
SALE OF WORK.
A sale of work and Christmas tree, in aid of the new church building fund, was opened in the Mount Eden Congregational schoolroom yesterday afternoon, at three o'clock, the formal opening being in the hands of Mr. Hui'h Campbell, Mayor of Parnell, who was introduced by ihe pastor, the Rev. W. Day. The interior of the building was tastefullv decorated with bunting and greenery, and the numerous works displayed, consisting of fancy and useful articles, presented by lady members and friends, wore readily purchased during both afternoon and evening by the largo attendance of visitors present on either occasion. The stalls and holders were as under: —Refreshments, Mj-s. Bridffman and assistants; No. 1, Mesdames Ball, Bowdeu, Glimmer, Lyon, Player; No, 2, Mesdames Baker, Lovett, Smith, Tvigg, Watts: Sunday-school " stall, Mesdames Moodie, Woodward, Misses Harvey and Moore: Christmas tree, Misses Ball; flower stall, Mrs. Alears, Miss Smith; produce stall. Mr. Smeeton. In the afternoon an orpin recital was given by Mr. J. P, Hooton, also several pianoforte selections by friends, while during tho evening there were tableaux vivunts, under the charge of Mrs. Wood, a display of magic lantern slides by Mr. Ewen, a promenade concert, contribu:ed to by the Everton orchestra, members and friends, also shooting gallery, and oilier attractions incidental to such functions. The sale of work will continue this afternoon and evening, when musical programmes, etc., will again be provided for the pleasure of visitors.
