THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Tour correspondent, W. F. Hammond, in to-day's issuo, comments severely on what he considers the mental deficiencies of some of our school teachers, and he proceeds to castigate one of thorn with whom he has " lately become acquainted," as being "sceptical," "posing in eccentricities to sport," and " breeding larrikins." Although these charges are somewhat ambiguous, if not meaningless, still I have no doubt the young man referred to will accept the rebuke in a contrite spirit, and be humbly thankful to Mr. Hammond for the kind and Christian way in which ho has publicly referred to his defects. What I wish to point out, however, is that your correspondent apparently blames tlin absence of the Bible from our public schools for the shocking condition of his young; friend's mental department, and that being the case, we can see at a glnnco that this defect in our education system did not exiat in the couptry or scholastic institution where Hr. Hammond received his education. —I am, etc., Mentob.
