THE QUATHLAMIiA.-A RECORD TRIP. The fine iron barque Quathlamba arrived from Newcastle yesterday morning, this being her first visit to this port. The barque is a very handsome-looking vessel, and is a firstclass carrier, her capacity being about 740 tons, on the lieht draught of 12ft 9in; can take on board about 415.000 ft of timber; and requires only 90 tons of ballast for sea. The Qnathlamba is a remarkably fast sailer, and has just completed what is the fastest round trip ever done by a sailing ship in theso rater's as will be seen from the following :- Nelson to Kaipara, 46 hours; Kaipara to Sydney 6 days; Newcastle to Auckland, 7 days. This is the first start of this fine vessel in the intercolonial trade, as she only arrived at Nelson from London a few months ago. She had a first-class record in London aa a sailer, and it would appeal from her latest achievement that sho is going to five .out crack sailing records the go-by. Tho Qnathlamba is claused 100 Al at Lloyd's, and is a vessel that has been well taken rare of, and slio comes into port in splendid order. Mr. J. J. Craig, the owner, is to be congratulated upon the success of his latest pnrchase, and his introduction of such a fine class of iron ve==els as the Quathlamba, Margarita, and Falls of Garry to New Zealand and Australian waters is deserving of every commendation. Being his first visit on the New Zealand coast. Captain Francies had some little trouble in getting the shin's position at night-time, owing to the lack nf roast lights. THE OXEnUN'a.V-AVKIJJNCTON SERVICE. \TSIiMKOTOK. December 2. — has been practically decided that from the 17th hist, the i'ape'urika will cv\ujitc running with the Takapr.na. leaviiie V.Viingt'jn on Sundays far Xdwn. Taranaki, and Onohunga, and returning to this port on the following Saturday: while the Takapuna. from Saturday, the 16th. will leave on fcnturdnys and Tuesdays for Lyttelttm. and make a trip from Wellington to Picton and Nelson on Thursdays. There are several reasons foi this change, the main one being that cargo (particularly in the dairy produce linei, and the passenger traffic has grown so considerably bctveen Onebnims and Wellington that the Takapuna is found to be too small tor the r",yriirPT.enK and the Jfapourika. being a ranch larger vessel in both departments, will relieve the nressnre. On the other hand. the Mannurika i? too slow for the 'iVellin?toii-livttclton service. The Takapuna. a? a vessel of reputed speed, will enable passengers to connect (it Lyttelton with the through train to Dunedin.
