THE PREMIER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. CORRESPONDENT.] Oro-riKi, Friday. The Premier, accompanied by the Hon. W. Kdlly, arrived here overland at ten o'clock this morning. He was received by a few of his admirers, the band playing " See the Conquering Hero Comes." The settlers were conspicuous by their absence. About 50 natives wero present, the school children, who had been granted a holiday, forming the greater number to welcome 'him. The Premier specially addressed the children in the street, on education, manliness, and conduct, and alsc said a few words to the parents, referring to their children. At noon he addressed the natives in the Town Hall. Three leading chiefs welcomed him, and pi iced then grievances before him. He replied that he was pleased to see the natives and Europeans living amicably together. He advised them not to sell any more land, but to '.ease it for the. benefit of their children. The Government would pass a measure to facilitate this, and, providing also for the landless natives. He exhorted the younger natives to become educated in nursing, and to abjure the tohungas, billiards, and waipiro, the latter only being good for old men. The Tutanekai arrived off the bar during the morning. Mr. Seddon is expected to arrive in Auckland either on Monday or early on Tuesday, and will probably give a political address during his stay in this city.
