AUCKLAND. MESSES. HUNTER AND NOLAN'S REPORT. Horsefeed, grain, seeds: A steady demand existed for average quantities. Horses continued in steady demand, average numbers being brought forward. The usual lots were brought under the hammer on Friday at the Durham Yards. There was an extra good attendance, in expectation of the shipment which, owing to late arrival was held over. We quote: Heavy draught] from £15 to £28 10s each; medium draught' £12 to £19 ss; light harness, £5 to £10 10s-' hacks, £4 5s to £9 15s; weeds, £1 to £2 10s Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones; Ratiier a large catalogue was gone through at the Durham Yards under keen competition for extra stout ox at from 5d to 6d lb; stout ox <i(l to <sd; steer. 3Jd to lid; cow, good sound 33d to 4id, damaged and sloppy 3d to 3id; stag. 23d; kip, 3id to 33d; calfskins, <d to 43d; bones, £3 to £3 5s ton; tallow 14s to 17s 6d cwt; sheepskins, salted 2s 7d to 4s lOd each; dry skins Is Id to 3s 2d. Cattle: At the Newmarket Yards, on Tuesday, cattle of all descriptions were yarded in full numbers, and bidding was" spirited throughout, selling at improved prices More steers were yarded in large numbers' A draft of very fine bullocks from the North sold at from £4 2s 6d to £5 14s each. Fat steers were firm from 18s to 203 1001b, and some of them were of excellent quality, and sold at from £5 7s 6d to £10 5s each; fat cows. £3 5s to £6 15s. Dairy cows sold at from £3 15s to £6 10s each; dry cows, £1 13s to £3 6s; grown steers, in fresh condition. £4 7s 6d to £5 14s; two-year-old steers £1 19s to £2 33; heifers, £1 5s to £1 17s 6dcalves. 15s to £1 Bs. At the l'apakura Yards, on Wednesday there was a very large muster of all sorts, especially dairy cows and grown steers. Fully Newmarket rates ruled. Sheep: The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and prices advanced Wethers sold at from 10s °d to 17s 9d each; ewes. 10s to 14s 9d; mixed sexes, 10s 6d to 15s 3d; spring lambs, 9s to 14s 6d. Pigs: Scarce and wanted. Porkers sold at from £1 6s to £1 15s; weaners, 7s to 109 6d. MESSES. A. AUCKLAND AND SONS' REI'OUT. At the Haymarket meadow hay has brought from Is 6d to 2s 3d; oaten sheaves, Is 3d cwt; wheat straw, 12s to 16s load; maize. 2s sd; wheat, 2s 4d; feed oats, Is 9d to Is lid; white Tartars, 2s 3d bushel; carrots, 20s; potatoes, 335; clover hay, £3 15s; chaff, £2 ss; Chesterfield guano, £3 los; bonednst, £6 to £6 15s ton: maize, on wharf, 2s 3d bushel. On Friday horse stock were at late values. Draught horses, ton trial, brought from £13 to £20; trial in light harness, £5 to £11; riding horses, up to £16; boiler and engine, £11 10s. At Waiuku on Saturday, a moderate muster of cattle sold freely at late values. On Tuesday, hides and skins, pitched in increased numbers, met a freo demand at fully previous values. Oxhides, were from 4Jd to 5Jd; cowhides. 35d to 4Jd; stags', 2Jd; kip, 3Jd; calf, 3d to 4jd; horsehair, Is 23d; fat, lid lb; tails. Is 9d dozen; tallow, 12s to 15s; choice tins, 225; bones, 3s 3d cwt; fresh sheep pelts. 3s to 4s 7d; dry pelts, Is 2d to 3s 4d; merino wool, 63d; crossbred, 4Jd; dead, 3Jd lb. At Remnera. on Thursday, dairy cows, near calving, were at lower values. Store cattle, fully represented, sold freely Calves, abundant, kept late values; 75 sold. Fat cattle, in full number, wero fully at late values. Steers of fair to good quality from 18s to 19s (a few pens 20s) 1001b. Steers brought from £5 5s to £10 10s each; cows, £3 10s to £6 ss; 257 sold. Sheep, in moderate number, were at improved values. Wethers were from 12s 3d to 18s each; ewes, 9s to 12s Id; hoggets. 10s to lis 6d. Spring lambs, in short supply, brought from 12s 6d to 15s 3d each. Pigs, in larger number than for several weeks, were required. Late prices ruled. MESSES. G. W. BINNEY AND SONS' RErORT. On Tuesday we cleared a largo catalogue of hides, sheepskins, tallow, etc. Hides: Competition brisk. Picked ox sold up to 6UI lb; extra stout, 5Jd to 5Jd; stout, 4ld to 43d; medium. 4d to 4Jd: cow. best lines 35(1 to 4d, inferior 35d to 3}d; kip, 33d to 4d; calf. 4ld to sd, for all well flayed. Sheepskins: Local green and salted, large longwools. up to 4s 7d each; ordinary, 39 9d to 4s; halfbrcds, 3a 3d to 3s 9d. Tallow: Good. 16s to 16s 6(1 cwt: inferior, 12s to 14s; rough fat, Id to ljd lb. Bonedust: Runcorn Al—sacks, £6 5s to £6 10s; cwt hags, .£6 10s ton, NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY (LIMITED). Auckland Wool Stores, September 6. We offered a largo catalogue at our Tuesday's sale. We quote: — Hides: Stout ox, 5(1 to 5Jd; heavy, 4jd to 43d; light and medium, 33d to 4.id; calf. 4Jd to 51(1; dry, to 6d; liip, 3Jd to 4d; stags', 2£d to 23d. Skins were firmer. Large, 3s lOd to 4s 5(1; picked, to ss; small and medium, 2s 6(1 to 3s 6d. Tallow, 15s 6d to 16s 9d per cwt, Tails, Is 9d per dozen. Horsehair, Is to Is 4d per lb. Cow hair, 9d to lid per lb. Maize: Sydney markot is weaker, only being prepared to pay 2s 3d f.o.b. The local market- is very bare. Oats are worth Is lOd ox store, and Is 9d to arrive. Potatoes: £2 5s on wharf. Chaff: Good finalities, worth £2 at rail, WANGANUI. Messrs. Freeman 8. Jackson and Co. report:—A fair entry of cattle came forward at St. Hill-street, on Thursday, for which there was a brisk sale. Yearlings and young cattle generally advanced considerably in price. All round cattle woro short of requirement*. An odd pen or two of sheep represented the entry. These were disposed of at ruling rates. The Wiritoa property made £8 per acre. Small fat heifers, £2 19s 6d; store cows, 38s to 455; forward bullocks, £4 4s; 3-year steers, £3 5s to £3 12s; 2-year steers, £2 15s; mixed yearlings, 33s 6d: yearling heifers. 375; 2-year heifers, £2 7s; milch cows, £2 10s to £4 7s 6d; forward owes, 8s 6d; light fat ewes, 9s 9d. Pigs in moderate supply were considerably easier. TOWAI. Messrs. Dickeson and Hall held their first spring sale of live stock at the Towai Yards, on .September 2. There was a good muster. Cows at profit realised from £4 10s upwards, grown steers from £3 10s, and two-year-old mixed lot from £2 5s upwards; very little beef was offered, and what was, found a ready sale. Situate as these saleyards arc, half way between Whakapara and Kawakawa, on the side of the main north road, they ought to be more extensively used by both vendors and purchasers. I notice an opposition auctioneer makes a practice of going round amongst the settlers and purchasing any stock they have for sale a few days before the sales take place at ' our yards; hence, a number of stock are not submitted for auction that would be. Tile settlers, would find it more to their advantage and to the advancement of our district to patronise our public saleyards more.— Correspondent.] JOHNSONVILLE. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with .Messrs. Abraham and Williams. report as to their Johnsonville sale on August 29. as follows:—The quality of tile bullocks yarded called for no special mention, as only a lew inferior pens came forward. The cows anil heifers were prime, and in some cases choice. The bidding throughout was brisk, and satisfactory prices ruled. The better quality of ox beef made 18s the 1001b; second rate down to 16s. Heifer and cow made 15s to 16s. according to quality. _ Sheep were in shorter supply, and wero at improved rates. Tho general order was only secondary, though a few pens of prime wero yarded. Cattle: Medium bullocks, £6 7s 6d to £7 2s 6d ; lighter inferior quality. £5 15s to £6; prime and choice heifers, £6; prime heifers, £4 5s t to £5 12s 6d; heavy cows, £5 15s. Sheep: Prime ewes. 14s lid; good ewes, 13s to 13s 7(1; lighter, lis to 12s 3d; inferior ewes, 10s; fat wethers, 14s 6d to 15s 2d; half-fatted wethers, 12s to 13s. STRATFORD AND HAWERA. The Egmont Farmers' Union, Limited, Hawera, report on September I:—At Stratford on August 25, a fair entry of stock came forward with »i hotter enquiry fur all classes of cattle: —Two to 2i-year steers, £2 15s 6fl to .£3 ss; dairy cows and heifers, £3 2s 6d to £4; 15 to 20-month steers, £1 19s to £2 ss; yearling steers, £1 5? to £1 16s; empty cows and heifers. £1 14s to £2 7s; weaners, 15a to £1. At our monthly horse fair on August 26, owing to the inclement weather, several of our clients' horses were not able to reach the yards, therefore it was decided to hold a supplementary fair on the following Saturday. Bidding was keen for useful sorts, resulting in satisfactory prices being realised. Draught horses, £18 10s to £32 10s; unbroken draughts, £10 to £16 7s 6d; harness horses. £9 5s to £16 10s; hacks, £3 to £12 15s. On August 29, we held a clearing sale on account of if.. R. Muir, who has given up dairying. Although several of the cows were in backward condition, but through the herd being well known, satisfactory prices were realised. Dairy cows, £3 5s to £9 2s 6d; dairv heifers, £4 to £6 2s 6d; horses, £10 to £15 12s 6d; pigs. 7s to £1 2s. At the Glover Road Yards on August 31, with the exception of fat stock, about the advertised number of stock came forward. There were several buyers for fat stock who had to return home disappointed. Bidding throughout was brisk, and as spring advances, we anticipate much keener competition for store cattle, also for fat cattle of prime quality. Fat bullocks. £5 to £5 2s 6d; 25-year to 3-year steers, £3 12s to £3 18s; 2-year to 25-year 6teers. £2 16s to £3 9s; dairy heifers, £3 5s to £4 10s; heifers in calf, £2 2s to £3 2s 6d; empty heifers, £2 to 2 103; cows in calf, £2 to £2 4s ■ yearlings. £1 6s to £1 15s. Sheep: Fat wethers, 12s; f.m. ewes in lamb. 8s to 8s 6d; empty ewes. 7s to 7s 9d; shorn hoggets, 9s 2d; woolly hoggets, 10s 3d. MASTERTON. Messrs. Lowes and lorns report of their fortnightly stock sale:—We have to report at our sale yesterday sheep of all classes came forward in good numbers, including a large proportion of fats in ewes and wethers, and these being well fatted made full rates. In store wethers some good classes were offered, all selling freely. Ewes in lamb were well represented both as to number and class, all finding buyers at sound figures. The hoggets penned were only medium, and all sold at good values, every pen of sheep offered selling. In beef some nice quality heifers wero yarded, these selling at increased rates. Several lots of fairy stock were submitted, only really good sorts near to profit selling. Pirine fat wethers made 14s; others, 13s and 12s 6d; prime fat ewes made 12s; others, lis and 103; forward storo wethers, lis 8d; others, Us 3d and Us; owes in lamb, according to quality, Us Id, 10s lid, 10s 6d, 10s Id. 10s and 9s; forward .6toro owes, 8s 5d and 8s; stores, 7s lid and 7s 6d; hoggets, 9s, 8s 9d, and 83 6d; prime fat heifers, £5 ss; others, £4 4s; dairy cows and heifers, £3 to £5; store pigs. 15s to 16s; wwere, 83 to 93. |
