"NO-LICENSE:" WHAT IS IT!
TO THE EDITOB. Sirl notice Bishop Cowie and others declare for " no-license,' but against prohibition. What is the difference? Can you enlighten me : I have talked with a large number of people, who are as ignorant as myself on this matter.—l am, etc., Muddled. [What " no license" means can be seen from a quotation from the Alcoholic liquors Sale Control Act Amendment Act of 1895 '3 "If the returning officer finds that the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal that no licenses shall be granted in the district is not less than three-fifths of all the voters whose votes were recorded, then such proposal shall be deemed to be carried, and shall supersede the proposals for reduction and for continuance of licenses, and he shall notify the Licensing Committee thereof; and thereafter no licenses of any description shall be granted therein until alter another licensing poll has p«nn v' If no-license" '6 carried there cannot be any legal sale of liquor.-Ed.]
