MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. r Ta Puke Gold Reefs (Te Puke, August 26): No, 3 east level— south has been extended 15ft for the week. Reef is not dipping to the west, so we aro working the hangingwall. We will be cutting timber next, and afterwards will crosscut the reef, Khartoum (Marototo, August 31): During the past fortnight the level has been extended 20ft, making its total length 151 ft, and this leaves 9ft of driving to be done in order to reach under the shoot of rich ore discovered some time since on the surface. Within the last few days the lode has improved considerably, and fair dish prospects of gold are now obtainable from any of the ore on the hangingwall side. The enclosing country rock is also becoming of a more favourable description for the existence of the precious metals in payable quantities. New Whau (Thames, September 5): The crosscut has been extended a further distance of about 9ft, making the total 40ft from the Sons of Freedom reef. In the last few feet of driving we have met with very hard ground, and I am satisfied now that the reef met with in the crosscut, 21ft from the main reef, of which I made mention in my report of the 22pd ult., is the hangingwall reef that we have been driving for. I intend to discontinue driving the crosscut any further at present, and have started the men to drive on the course of this reef. It is a fine compact body of ore, about 18in in width, and encased in a splendid class of gold-bearing country. In breaking a little of the quartz to-day, the 4th inst., just to make room to start off with (he drive, we saw a few nice colours of the precious metal in the ore. Drive on the Sons of Freedom reef—This drive has been extended about Tift; total, 43ft from rise. We Lave not broken any of I 'the reef from here during the week. The country penetrated is of an excellent description, it being a network of quarts and mineral veins.
