The Northern Company's steamer Ngungurn arrived from Whangarei last night, and leaves for the same place again this tiling. Last night the Northern Company b steamer Wellington left for Whangarei. The Northern Company's steamer Muritai left for the Great Barrier last night. Last evening the auxiliary schooner Greyhound left for Northern ports. The Union Company's steamer Hawea leaves for Wcstport this afternoon. At 8 o'clock to-night the Northcn frmpany's steamer Chelmsford leaves for Wliangapoua. The barque Kathleen Hilda sailed from Geelong for Sydney with a cargo of grain, on discharge of which she proceeds to Newcastle to load coal for Auoitl iad. Yesterday the Union Company's steamer Upolu was berthed at tile Queen-street Wharf. The barquentine Ocean Ranger, which is 'loading produce at Timaru for Auckland, has been iked through Mr. M. Niceol to load sulphur ore at. this port for Sydney. Yesterday afternoon the brigantine Stanley was towed down from Chelsea, and berthed at Quay-street Jetty to take in ballast preparatory to sailing for Mercury Bay to load timber for Sydney. The brigantine Aratapu will be towed down to Tairua to-day by the tng-boat Admiral, to load timber for Wellington. The barque Quathlamba, which proceeds from Nelson to Kaipara to load timber for Sydnev has been fixed by Mr. M. Niccol to load rial at Newcastle for Auckland; thence Than:!' to Melbourne with timber. THE TE AN'AU. The Union Comnpiiy's steamer Tt Anan left (ii-borne for this port at 11 a.m. yesterday. and should arrive about noon to-day. Plie leaves for East Coast and Southern ports at 110011 on Saturday.

THE WAIHORA. The Union Company's steamei Waihora left Sj dne'- for Auckland lust evening, and io due 011 Monday morning next.

THE TOMOANA. The Tyser liner Tomoana. which lias arrived at Melbourne from Now York, is on her maiden voyage, having been built for the London Australian, and New Zealand trade. She is under the command of Captain J. C. Fetalis. late of the s.s. Hawke's Bay. and on discharge of cargo at Melbourne proceeds on to Sydnev. and then comes on to Auckland, where she is expected to arrive about the 22nd iust. Messrs. T. and S. Morrin (Limited) are the local agents for the steamer.

THE GRACE DEERING. Tlio American barque Grace Deering is now 125 days out from New York to Port Chalmers. and should arrive at any moment. The barque comes on to this port with part cargo of general merchandise, 011 discharge of which she loads with kauri gum for New York, under the auspices, of Messrs. Arnold. Cheney, and Co.

THE STAR OP THE EAST. The barque Star of the East has failed from New York for Wellington and Auckland, and on discharge loads with kauri gum and flax for New York, for Messrs. Arnold, Cheney, and Co.

THE ELIZA FIRTH. The brigantine Eliza Firth, Captain Murray, from Lytteltoii, arrived in the river on Saturday last. The captain reports having left Lytteltqn on August 26; made a fairweather passage to Kaipara Heads, which were reached on the 30th. Crossed the bar and came up the river under sail, and berthed at the Vvhakapirnu wharf ou the 2nd inst. Captain Murray complains of the unsatisfactory arrangements for towing at present- existing. He would gladly have taken advantage of a tug, but there was none available. The brigantine brings a very full cargo of Southern produce for our local storekeepers, and others in surrounding settlements, after discharging which she proceeds to the Northern Wairoa to load timber.—[Whnkapirau Correspondent.]

RECORD STEAMING. The steamer Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, which left New York on July 4, arrived at Cherbourg in 5 days 20 hours and 65 minutes, travelling 3190 nautical miles at an average speed of 22.62 knots per hour, thus breaking all records. The same vessel already held the Eastern record for speed, when she oovered in July, 1698, 3146 miles at an average speed of 22.56 knots per hour.

NEW ZEALAND SHIPMASTERS' ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting of the New Zealand Shipmasters' Association was held in the rooms Grey-street, Wellington, on Monday last' Captain Hart, vice-president, in the chair Besides the ordinary routine busi- , ness arrangements were made for the annual general meeting of the association, which lias been fixed to be held on Monday, October 9 For this purpose all books and accounts will he closed for audit on the 23rd inst. The following officers were nominated to hold office for the ensuing year, and. being unopposed, will be duly elected'at the annual meeting: —President, Mr. G. Wilson; vicepresidents, Captains Hart and Campbell: cpcrctsrv Captain Kennedy; secretary for South Island. Captain Wills (of the Wakatul; trustees, Captains Babot and Johnson. A proposal will be made at the annual meeting to add to the membership of the asportation by instituting the admission of associate ' members.
