THE "ROME OF PROTESTANTISM." An imposing demonstration, in honour of • Calvin, has just been held in the city of Geneva, which he raised to the proud position of "the Rome of Protestantism." A memorial . tablet was' affixed to the house which now occupies* the . site of Calvin's house, in the Rue Calvin, with the inscription: "John Calvin lived here, 15*3-15 4." Unfortunately, for; the 'precise truth of the inscription, the modest ,dwelling which the' great reformer. really inhabited was pulled > down in 1706, so that the memorial had to be placed upon another house, now occupying the same site.
