Australian papers to hand state there have been no sensational developments in the wagering on the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. Town Clock, Dirk Hammerhand, and Tho Chief are, however, a trio that continue to receive good support for, tho first-named Taco, while Wait-a-Bit is a much-fancied candidate for the latter race. Lancaster continues to bo quietly supported for the same event.
The authorities of the Mangore and Suburban Trotting Club have expressed their intention of tendering a benefit meeting to the widow and family of the late James Kean. The gathering, it is expected, will be held during the coming month at Potter's Paddock. The jumping horses Nor'-west and Shylock were brought up to Auckland by t'>e s.s, Rotoiti, which vessel arrived in the ManuKau on Saturday. The pony Fair Nell and the two-year-, Ferret (by OberonWeasel), purchased recently by Mr. E. J. Dalton, of Sydney, are to be shipped ihence by the s.s. Westraiia on the 2lßt prox. It transpires that when Mr. S. H. GolUns New Zealand-bred horse, Waiuku, won the Manor Welter Plate of lOObovs, weight-for-ago, one mile, at the Gatwick Summer Mating, he put down an odds-on tavourite in "Mr. Jersey's" Bridgeroom. Waiuku Win in a canter by a length and a-half. Lancaster, with Bst 81b in the saddlu, w»s a starter for a two-year-old race run at Caulfield on the 23rd inst., but 110 did not fiinre in the placed division, an outsider named Tabilk, under the light weight of 6st 101b, bringing off a surprise. The Auckland-bred Ditto (12sfc 41b) is amongst the acceptors for the Caulfield Grand National Steeplechase to be run 011 the 12th prox. When the Mararoa left Sydney Severity and Cravat was the favourite selection for the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps. The erst Auckland-owned Royal Rose has been shipped to India.
