DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary mealing of the Dcvonport Borough Council was held last night. There were present: His Worship the Mayoi (Mr. J. C. Mucky) and Messrs. Xiceol, Mays, Mitchell, Dunning, Duller, Handley, C'roeth, Brooks, and Entrican. Correspondence: Mr. T. G. Tanton wrote complaining of the had state of the watertable in front of his residence. It was decided to leave the. matter in the hands of ■ the foreman of works, to give it immediate attention. The Defence Office wrote re drainage outlet, and it was resolved to refer the matter to the borough solicitor, with instructions to prepare the necessary documents. Licenses: M . D. Parker applied for drivers' licenses foi persons in his employ. I Deferred pending the report of the police, | and on receipt of the same it was decided that His Worship the Mayor should decide. Messrs. Keenan and Sons applied for licenses for a cab and waggonette for the race days. It was decided that the fee should be fixed at £2 for each vehicle, and that only one driver's license be issued for each licensed vehicle. Also, that- vehicles so licensed must carry the registered number. It was resolved that licenses be granted to drivers of Messrs. Keenan and Sons according to number of vehicles. Harbour Board: Messrs. Devore and Cooper wrote re Auckland Harbour Board agreement. The draft was approved by the Council. Miscellaneous: Mr. A. Hall wrote re Glen Road, olid olferin b tc pay a sum towards the cost. Referred to the foreman of works to report at next meeting. A petition was received from Vauxhall Road praying the Council to place a gas lamp in Vauxhail Road, at corner of Grove Road. The matter was deferred. It will be favourably considered when the Council is in a position to erect new lamps. The reports of the Waterworks and Finance and Legal Committee were read and adopted. Messrs. Handley, Mitchell, and Dunning were appointed a Planting Committee. It was decided, on the report of tee foreman of works, that the cleaning of the water-tables and repairs to Albert Road and Victoria Road from Spraggon's corner to firebell be carried out. Applications for Clerk of Works for Drainage: 1 here were 36 applicants, out of which W were chosen and referred to the Mayor and Messrs. Niccol and Dunning tc consult with the engineer and reduce to three, and report at a special meeting to be held on Tuesday Mxt. The 10 names are:E. Row bottom, G. A. Malcolm, F. Hunt, W. S.
