At the half-yearly meeting oi the Congregational Union at Stratlifield, New South Wales, on April 27, an important proposal was received from the secretary oi the NewZealand Union, setting out a scheme for the bringing out to the colonies of prominent English Congregational clergymen. It was suggested that in the event of an understanding being arrived at by the unions, the clergymen to be invited should, be provided with''a round ticket, and asked t<> undertake the journey in approved order early in 1900. Of the many clergymen whom the union would like tr see, a pre-, ference was expressed for Dr. Fairbairn, Dr. Parker, Dr. Horton, the Revs. W. J. Dawson, Silvestei Home', J. W.Jowett, Merlais Jones, and J. M. Gibbon. The visits, it was further suggested, .might be so arranged as to provide for the attendance of one of the clergymen at the Council meetings of each colony ,in turn,- opportunities being'given them to see. local sights in ' the 1 meantime.-.- :( Besides I providing '■ a round ticket, -remuneration;'to. the extent of :£6 per week would be paid during each o'a toman's st,v< ; in the colonies. ...To finance the schema it was provided' that for every week !a ■ clergyman: remained it .' a colony, suchcolom ■ should raise,'by. subscription, preaching- or lecture;! ... a sum of £35, which, taken - for v the whole -period of, each individual's visit, Would work.out a* follows :- .Eighteen weeks at £35, £630; less local ' printing; halls, ! etc., £90; '.-.round• ticket, '■ £125 '18 weeks'salary at £6, v £108; total, '■■' £315; > leaving halfthe ■ sum.raised to ; the i home 'mission, 1 ; under: whose ; auspices •. the [ taius would'be -arranged; 1 " ~ - /: - x
