By Telegraphs-Press Association.-Copyright. THE LABOUR CONFERENCE. Brisbane, May 6. The Labour Conference adopted a scheme of federation of the various labour organisations throughout the colonies. It will be submitted to the unions for approval. Its objects include the prevention of strikes, and the influx of aliens. A SAILOR'S PATE. Sydney, May 7. Purcell, a sailor of the Royal Arthur, was found floating in the harbour nearly a year ago. The police have just received a letter signed "Remorse," in which the writer states that during a quarrel Purcell struck him. He retaliated, and Purcell fell into the water. KAURI TIMBER COMPANY. Melbourne, May 6. At a meeting of the Kauri Timber Company a resolution was adopted authorising the issue of £275,000 worth of debentures by mortgage or uncalled capital, or in any other manner the directors may consider expedient. A quarter of a million debentures mature in London in July, and the new issue is intended for renewal purposes, NEW ZEALAND POLO TEAM. Melbourne, May 7. The Camperdown polo team defeated NeW Zealand by eight goals and 10 behinds to four goals and 12 behinds. HOSPITAL SATURDAY. Sydney, May 7. The Hospital Saturday collections in the city and suburbs totalled £3729, or nearly £800 more than last year. OBITUARY. Hobart, -May 7. The Hon. A. T. Pillinger, Minister for • Lands, is dead. Mr. Pillinger has been member for Oatlands in the House of Assembly since July, 1876. In October, 1888,. he joined the Government of Sir P. Fysh •=?' (now Agent-General for Tasmania), and occupied the same position during the Premiership of Sir E. N, C. Braddon, . •- '"
