Lord Roserert, speaking at the City Liberal Club, condemned the miserable contribution offered by the Government towards tho Pacific cable. The Times says a great Imperial undertaking ought to be treated to a broader manner and more generously. Ottawa, May 6. British Columbia offers to guarantee two-eighteenths beyond Canada's contribution towards tie cost of the Pacific cable. Mr. Sanford Fleming considers Britain's recession a fatal blow to the scheme of Stato-owned British cables, and a grave retrograde step in tho Imperial movement.
