SHIPPING CASUALTY.
A BARQUE ASHORE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Timaeu, Saturday. Tiie barque John Gambles, 1066 tons, with coal ballast, from Brisbane, when approaching Timani this morning in a thick fog, got among the reefs inside Patiti Point, a mile south of the harbour, and struck. A tug and several boats have gone to her assistance. The fog was still thick at noon, and the vessel could not be seen from the shore. [The John Gambles is an iron barque of the following dimensions :—Length, 215.9 ft; breadth, 34.1 f t; depth, 21ft; tonnage, 1066. She was built by R. Williamson and Son, of Harrington, in 1874, and is owned by W. Price and Co., of Workington. The John Gambles arrived at Brisbane from Glasgow with a cargo of general merchandise, in March last, and sailed for Timaru on April 10 to load grain for London.]
