« COLLISION WHILE BOUND TO SYDNEY. Bt the Canadian-Australian mail steamer Warrimoo, which has arrived at Sydney from Vancouver, an account came to hand of the unfortunate accident In tho Tysci lino steamer Star of -New Zealand in the English Channel whilo bound on a voyage to Sydney and ports from London. It appears that on the Ist ult. tho German steamer Pontos, from Rosario with wool cargo and 1000 sheep, was inward hound up the channel, when she met the British vessel Star of Now Zealand, having a valuable general cargo for Australian and New Zealand ports. The accounts received state that during tho darkness in the early morning the Star of New Zealand struck the Pontos amidships, cutting into her side, so that she sank immediately. Twelve of the seamen were picked up, clinging to a boat, in a very exhausted slate, and woro landed at Dover. The captain and 19 of the crew were landed at Hastings. Tho boats of tho Star of Now Zealand worn stove in, and her stern and upper works were so badlv damaged that she was compelled to put back. Twelve others of the crew and six passengers of the Pontos were rescued by a passing stoamcr, so that 43 men and all the passengers woro roscuotl.
