THE FRISCO SERVICE.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir,-I was glad to sco your leader this morning ro the 'Frisco mail service, especially as I hayo been anxiously waiting for the statement of facts promised by the Chamber of Commerce, and which I full} expected would have been published last week. Rut though I have searched the papers carefully the only notice I have seen is, that Mr. John Burns las prepared a statement of fact* which is being distributed in the South. Why tho Auckland public should not be allowed to know tho contents of tho said pamphlet if beyond my comprehension; possibly it is being kept back to bo read at an indignation meeting, which no doubt will bo called when Parliament has met, and tho thing is settled, and Auckland finds herself "out of the running." I wrote a week ago advocating that all tho M.H.R.'s whoso constituencies would bo Commerco (if they had time) should open proposo that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce (if they have time) would open communication with tho Sydney Chamber of Commerce, as I understand if Wellington is substituted as the port of call, it will mean the mails wing delivered in Sydney 17 hours later. Now, if this is pointed out to them, they will soon take steps to enter their protest against any alteration being made in the New Zealand port of call. One very important point to be remembered is this, that if Auckland continues to hold her present position with regards to tho 'Frisco mail service, it will mean the hastening of tho completion of a railway between Auckland and Wellington a most important factor in the commerco of the North Island, —I am, etc., J. D. Robebts. 36 and 38, High-street.
