Yesterday afternoon His Worship Mr. H. 8. Wardell, S.M., sat in the Polico Court to hear further evidence in the adjourned civil case J. M. Shera v. Warren Blyth and Co., the claim amounting to £28 14s 6d, in connection with a freight dispute. It appeared, howejver, that since last Court day the disi pute had been settled out of Court. The case | was then strook out by consent. A counter ; olaim for £26 Bs, alleged to be the value of 1 goods short dolivered, was also struck out. j Mr. Burton appeared for the plaintiff, and I Mr. Baume for the defendant firm. j Mr. F. E. Winchcombe, senior partner in j the well-known Sydney firm of Winchcombe, Oarson anil Co., is announced as a candi- ' date for a directorship in the Australian Mutual Provident Society at the election, which is to take place this month. Tho A.M.P. is a purely Australian institution, and in Mr. Winchcombe the members will secure a purely Australian director, and one who has proved his fitness to manage the affairs of the society by first successfully , managing his own. Tho A.M.P. is dealing more largely recently in advances on good pastoral holdings, and in this class of business Ml- Winchcombe's largo experience in t connection with such securities will be valu- j [•bio. j
