In November last Mr. Alfred Morine, Receiver-General of Newfoundland, resigned at the request of Sir Herbert Murray, the then Governor, because he had acted as legal adviser to Mr. R. G. Reid, the Montreal contractor, in connection with his contract with the Government for the transfer of the ' railways and telegraphs. Lieut.Colonel Sir H. E. Macallum, the present Governor, has reinstated Mr. Morine, and protested against the innuendos against Mr. Reid and others associated with the contract.
