An inquest was held to-day on the body of Maud Payne, four years of age, who died ': at the hospital from the effect of burns, i through her clothes catching fire.. '■ Wellington, Monday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand : , Times Company was held this afternoon, •. Mr. Martin Kennedy, managing director, presiding. The report of the directors '" stated that a small but substantial profit was shown on the year's transactions. Until quite recently the expenses largely exceeded the income, but the directors are now hopeful | that the corner has been turned, and the pro- , prietors may shortly expect a fair return I from their capital. The freehold of the new , premises had been acquired during the year. t at a cost of £3000, and a sum slightly in ex- - cess of that bad been spent on new plant. i Mr. Bannister, the general manager, having > resigned in order to devote himself to the ' commercial side of the company's business, • the directors intimated they had resolved to appoint a new manager. The report and ' balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. Messrs. J. A. Plimmer and J. Young were B re-elected directors, and Mr. William Wat g son, late president of the Bank of New Zea--9 land, was appointed to a seat on the Board t vacated by Mr. H. Beauchamp.
