AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs. W. J. Napier (chairman), M. Niccol, J C. Macky, J. T. Julian, \V Loys, J. Thorncs, W. Gunson, J. H. With;)ford, H. D. Heather, W. J. W. Philsoa, and A. Kidd. Swimming Gala: The uso of tho Graving Dock was granted to the Auckland Swim ming Club for the championship gala -m March 25, provided that the dock is no; otherwise ongaged. Tenders: Tho tender of S. Fullorton to clean ami paint tho buoys and beacons for £32 10s, was accepted. Mr. W. H. Brown, shipbuilder, wrote slating that ho bad made an error of £50 in tendering for the punt tor the I'riestinan dredger, and that he was not prepared to tako up the tender at £540. It was decided not to accept any tender meantime, and that the plans be revised, with the view of reducing tho cost of the punt. Weighbridge: The foreman of works reported that tho weighbridge requires to be overhauled, and suggested that it bo tested with the Government standard weight* as soon as possible. It was agreed that the work be dono. Wharf at Cox's Creok: The Works md Tariff Committee roported consideration of a letter from Messrs. Cashmoro Brothers as tc, erection of a wharf at Cox's Creek and recommended, " Thai permission to erect wharf and boom-logs be granted to Messrs. Cashmore Brothers, subject to section 156 of tho Harbours Act, 1878. Such wharf to bo a public wharf, and all dues to be levied the same as on other wharves." The recomniondation was adopted. Devonport Drainage Scheme: The Works and Tariff Committee; recominonded with leforencu to the drainage scheme of the Devjuport Borough Council, "That the plans of drainage; scheme as submitted be approved, and permission granted to the Devonport Borough Council to deposit sewage, so long us the same does not damago the Board's property, or become in any way a public nuisance, and an agreement to be signed Ifthis effect," Storage .of Explosives: On a report from the Works and Tariff Committee with reference to the storage of explosives, it was agreed, "That further consideration be deferred, tho Leon to be docked in Calliope Dock at tho cost of Mr. Craig, and if purchased by tho Board the cost of docking to bo remitted." Overcrowding of Ferry Steamers: The Fi nance and Legal Committee reported eon sideration of a letter from Dr. Bakowell ie overcrowding of ferry steamers, and recommended, "That tho foreman of works report as to the wharfage accommodation for ferry passenger, goods, and animal traffic, and that Dr. Bakowcll be informed that the Board is contemplating tho providing of further facilities for the traffic," The report was adopt rJ. Ferry Jetty at Chelsea: Mr. Withelord moved, "That the foreman of works bo instructed to prepare an estimate of cost of ferry jetty at Sugar Company's wharf a' Chelsea." He said that (luring the sugar season the ferry boats could not get up to the wharf at all, and in the dark it was vory (iwigerous. Mr. Julian seconded, and the. motion was adopted.
