DEVONPORT DISTRICT SCHOOL
The Devonport School Committee met at l' the school on Thursday evening;, Mr. 0. J Mays (chairman) presiding. There were also 3 y present: Messrs. P. H. Mason, 6. L. PeaI 1 cocke, H. J. Baulf, S. C. Macky, and E. ir Ford. ' Assistant Master: The Board of Education r wrote that they had, at the request of the '• committee, appointed Mr. S. H. Macky first 16 assistant in place of Mr. Semadeni, promoted n to Pukekohe West school, Mr. Macky'a ir duties to commence on the first of March ! ° next. In reference to the removal of Mr. 0 Semadeni, Mr. Peaeocke moved, "That tho " committee wish to express their sense of the 6 able and conscientious manner in which Mr. r C. A. Semadeni has carried out his work 0 during tho five years in which he lias held '• the position of first assistant in this school, ™ and, while regretting his removal from Devotl- '■ port, congratulate him on hir well-earned d promotion to the head-teachership of Pukekohe West school." This was seconded' by ' ( Mr. S. C. Macky, and carried unanimously. :l ' Mr. Udy's Retirement: The Chairman stated they would all regret to learn that Mr. 10 Udy had resolved to retire from the Board r of Education, on the expiration of his term of office, on March 31 next, and he was sure they would agree that he had been a vory diligent and straightforward member, and that his retirement would bo a distinct loss to the cause of primary education in this province. He moved, "That this committee R. learn with sincere regret of the retirement, after 14 years' service on the Board of EduP cation, of Mr. Richard Udy, and desire to ' express their high appreciation of the long l" 8 continued labours of that gentleman in tho I® faithful discharge of his duties, both as a . member and chairman of tho Board." Mr. 1 Peacocko seconded the resolution, which was S e heartily and unanimously adopted. Candidates' Nomination: After consider- ' able discussion, it was resolved to nominate lr Messrs. Theo. Cooper and Wm. Leys as can- !" didates for the vacant seats on the Board.
