MARINE CERTIFICATES.
THE CHARGE AGAINST CAPTAIN TON SCHOEN. ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. [BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. I.v the S.M. Court to-day the cases under the Shipping and Seamen's Act of 1877. were resumed. Captain Von Schoen, teacher of navigation, was charged with assisting to procure a certificate for Captain Jones by false representation. The evidence showed that the first intimation of irregularities was conveyed to an officer of the Marine Department by Schoen and subsequently the latter communicated with Mr. Hutcheson and Mr. Pirani, M.H.R.'s, the information conveyed being the subject of tlieii speeches in Parliament. It was shown that prepared papers presented by Jones to the examiners were in the handwriting (if Schoen. After argument Schoen was committed for trial, bail being allowed. The charge against Captain Jones was dismissed, the .Magistrate holding there was no evidence to show that lie concurred at the false representation.
