AN ORGANISER FOR THE LIBERAL PARTY.
At yesterday's meeting of the Board of Education, the following somewhat singular letters were read:—Huntly, January 24, 1899. The chairman Education Board,: Sir,—l beg hereby to give three months' notice of mv intention to resign my appointment as head teacher of the Huntly district school. I take this opportunity of thanking you for the courtesy and kindness I have always received during the 13 years I have been in the service of the Board.—l have the honour to be, sir, your obedient servant, Arthur Edwards. The other letter was as follows: —Sit, Having been annointed by the Premiei "Organiser of the Liberal party," I beg respectfully to ask foi leave of absence during the terra of my notice of my intention to resign my position as head teacher of the Huntly district school.—l have the honour, etc., Arthur Edwards. Mr. Edwards was foi some time an assistant teacher at one of the city schools, but was transferred to Huntly. His request for three months' leave of absence (on pay) while he was all over the colony "organising the Liberal party" was apparently legarded by the members of the Board as being somewhat cool. They accepted the resignation, but declined the leave of absence. They were not scared even by the words, "hrtving been appointed by the Premier." It is rather a curious phrase to be used by an " organiser." Mark, Ml. Edwards has been appointed, not' by Mr. Seddon, not by the leader of the Liberal party, but by the Premier of the colony.
