The liquidator of the Standard Bank of Australia reports that in August last, when the liquidation order was made against the company formed to take over the old company, the position of the company, exclusive of capital, was : Liabilities, £782,000 ; assets, £104,000. The deficiency was largely represented by bad debta,
VICTORIAN IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

The imports of the colony last yeai amounted to £16,768,000, an increase of £1,314,000, and the export, wen £15,817,000. a decrease of £857,000, U compared with the previous year.
NEW GUINEA.
Melbourne, January 23.
The conference of Premiers of Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland has decided to continue to pay the cost of the administration of New Guinea out of the accumulative surplus till March 31. Another conference will be held later on to decide what action is to be token with reference to the cabled statement that the New Guinea Land Syndicate concession has been disallowed The Premiers state that no« thing is officially known about it.
