IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE DECISION.

OHEISTCIIURCH, Saturday. An important judgment was delivered in the Magistrate's Court by Mr. Beetham, S.M., to-day. George Silk was sued for the maintenance of twin illegitimate children. An agreement had been drawn tip with the mother prior to the birth of the children, by which defendant agreed to pay £75 in satisfaction of all claims. £65 had been paid, but was spent partly in maintaining complainant's mother and sister, as v.ell as the infants. Complainant was now destitute. The Magistrate held that the defendant could not contract himself out of his responsibilities and made an order for weekly payments.
