AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.
THE NORTHERN COUNTIES' EXHIBIT.
The Northern counties, comprising Bay of Islands, Hokianga and Hobson, having combined for the purposes of making a joint exlnbit of the natural products, etc., of the Far -North, have appointed Mr. J. H. Mackio their Auckland representative to make all tho necessary arrangements for receiving the exhibits in Auckland and the setting up of the court at the Exhibition. An area of 400 square feet has been secured for the purpose, and as a prominent corner section has been allotted, a good opportunity will be afforded of making an interesting and effective display. The exhibits to come from tlip Hokianga district are M follows:-Kauri board (7oin wide), kauri sculls, kauri gum slab, tanekaha bark, towai bark, photographs, building stone, roach limestone, pottery clay, white clay, iron ore, puriri sleeper, totara sleeper, Hokianga grape wine, manganese, hematite, hydraulic limestone, walking sticks, about 40 pieces useful varieties of New Zealand timber, wheat, corn, Brazilian - maize oats, quartz, flax, butter, cheese, tobacco., raimo fibre, dried fruit, preserved fruit, tinned honey, axo handles, mineral water, charcoal, osier willows, fungus, pawa shells, coal, on; stulicd kiwi, two live ferns, piece totara pile (M years standing in river), piece of building stone (50 years in archway of bridge). Tho Jiay of Islands county forwarded to Mr. Mackie, by tho Clansman, a box of manganese and antimony, one case cheese, block of limestone, four fleeces of wool, two sacks ironstone gypsum, case of coal, manganese, piece shale, hematite, building stone, one case wino and cider, and one parcel of photos. These will bo immediately sent up to tho Exhibition Building and set in their place, the collections from the Hobson county and the Hokianga county are expected to arrive during next week. From the articles enumerated, it. will be seen that there is a most varied assortment, and it will no doubt surprise many persons to learn that tho Far ftorth is so productive of natural products, wo do not know whether other counties Jother than those who arc hero referred to) intend undertaking similar collections for the l.xliihition, but certainly 110 time should be lost 111 making tho necessary arrangements. _ 0. better opportunity can possibly ho afforded than is now offered to outsido districts for bringing under the notice of their fellow colonist what is being dono in their various localities. Wo understand it is Mr. Mackie's intention to make his collection attractive as well as practically effective, and with this object ill view he has arranged for a large number 01 photographs and some fernery, etc., as adornments to the barer portions of the exhibits. Another important featuro in tho Northern counties' court will bo a fino collection of kauri gum of various qualities and in various stages of manufacture, to be set up in a glass case over Bft square. This alone will inako a prominent foaturo of tho court, and should attract much attention. Mr. Mackie hopes to secure somo samples of made-up articles from some of the natural products of tho North.
RAILWAY CONCESSIONS TO EXHIBITORS. [by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ' Wellington, Monday. Exhibits for the coming Auckland Industrial Inhibition will be carried freo on the Government railways at tlio risk of the consignors, and under certain conditions. Loading and unloading must bo dono at the expense of the consignor, and in the event of the exhibits being sold tlio full railway charge must be paid. LIVING CHESS AND WHIST TOURNAMENTS. Performers are notified that a dross parade for the whist will bo held at the Choral Hall on Saturday next. 19th inst.. at half-past six p.m. for small cards, and half-past seven p.in. for royals, etc., sharp. It is announced that none but performers will bo admitted without an order for admission. Chaporonos should apply for orders to Dr. do ClivoLowe, opposite St. Paul's Church, or to Mr. G. D. Ingall, Glenalvon, Symonds-strcot. The same regulations will apply to tlio dress parades for chess at Mrs. Sowerby's hall on Tuesdays, 15th and 22nd inst. All characters lire to dress at homo. Properties will bo distributed, at tho hall.
Our Rotoriia correspondent writes: All the material required in tho shape of the various coloured earths, clays, mud, etc., for tho thermal springs court at the Auckland Exhibition, has now been forwarded; also several boxes of petrifactions and specimens of the peculiar water-worn formation on the lake shore.
