GOLF.
The spirit in which the Melbourne conference treated the Golf Union scheme (as told m my interview with Sir. Hugh Macneil, published last week) augurs wall for the future Of golf m ,Australia (says "Foozler" in the Sydney Mail). While hitherto the Royal Melbniriio has had good claim to the direction of championships, the spread of golf has altered the conditions of the game in Australia, and Ale bourne, while remaining the most important centre, ■» now only one of the centres. lt> continually play 011 one links was unfair to outside competitors and not in the best interests of golf, and the Royal Melbourne authorities have now recognised tills, and met the Sydney contentions generously by practolly adopting entirely the Sydney scheme of ,i union which was based on that of Melbourne, and originally advocated in this collimn.
