At l'okeno 011 Monday, and Drury on Wednesday, cattlo -were in moderate number, mostly dairy cows and heifers, with a fair number of bulls and fat cows. Dairy cows were from £3 to £5 ss: fat cows, £3 to £5 IDs: bulls, from £1 to £3 7s fid; calves, 13s to £1 6s each. At Remuera on Thursday dairy cows,in usual number, wero at late values. Useful cows at profit wero from £4 to £5 5s each. Calves, in average number, 60 sold, were required, and fully kept late values. Fat cattle, in usual supply, 240. yarded, sold irregularly, in some cases 10s each lower than last week. Values were from 16s to 20s the 1001b. Steers ranged from £6 to £10; cows, £4 15s to £5 12s 6d each. 30 passed. Fat sheep, in averase number, 1350 sold, were firm at last week's values. Wethers ranged from 8s 6<l to 17s 9d; ewes, lis to 13s 9d; hoggets, 2s 3d to 9s 3d each. Three pens this season's lambs brought 14s each. Pigs, numerous, 150 sold, scarcely kept last week's values, yet prices were satisfactory to the sellers. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY (LIMITED). Auckland Wool Stores, August 17. We had an extra large offering of hides and skins at our sale 011 Tuesday. Hides were about same level of prices as last week, there being better competition, however, for sound well-flayed lines. We quote: Prime stout ox, 5Jd to 6d lb; heavy stout, 4id to sid; medium, 33d to 4Jd; light, 3}d to 31(1; cow, best lines 3Sd to 31d, scored and sloppy Id to Ad less; calf, 3d to 4d; kip, 3d to 33d: stags, lid to 21d. Sheepskins: Good competition. Large sold 3s 9(1 to 4s each; small and medium, 2s 6d to 3s 6d. Tallow, hair, horns, bones, etc.: No change. Oats: The Southern market is very mud' stronger, and has risen 2d a, bushel, in consequence of which tho prices have advanced here to 2s 6!d and 2s 7d bushel, c.i.f., for wholesale lines. Chaff: No alteration in last week's prices, viz., £4 5s to £4 7s 6(1 ton at rail; £4 12s 6d to £4 15s ex store. Maize: Heavy shipments have arrived during the week, and a fall of Id to 2d bushel took place. Prices to-day arc 2s 9d 011 wharf, 2s lid ex store. MESSRS. G. W. BINNEY AND SONS' REPORT. On Tuesday we offered a large catalogue of hides, sheepskins, tallow, bones, etc. Hides: Prices were slightly easier for sloppy lots, but best-conditioned were firm. Picked ox sold up to 6Jd; extra stout, 51(1; stout, 4d to. 4Jd; medium, 31d to 33d; steer and cow, best lines, 31d to 3' 2 d; wet, 2i to 23(1; kip, 3d to 3>.d; calf, 3d to 4d; stag, ljd to 2Sd lb. Sheepskins: Met ready sale. Extra large longwools from 4s to 4s 6(1; large, 3s 9(1 to 3s lOd; ordinary, 3s 3d to 3s 6(1; crossbreds, from 2s 9il for small, to 4s 3d for large skins. Pelts, from 4d to Is 3d; dry skins, 2s to 3s 9(1 cach. Tallow: Mutton, 16s 6(1- good mixed, 15s to 16s; inferior, 123 to 133 6d cwt; fat, Id to lid lb. Bones: Very firm at 75s per ton for good dry lots. Bonedust: Runcorn, £6 10s to £6 15s; Emu, £6 10s to £6 15s ton. Wholesale only. NORTHERN CATTLE SALES. Messrs. Hunter and Wilson report:-At llikurangi, 011 Tuesday, August 2, the advertised number of cattle came to hand, and were required. Fat cattle, 30 sold; steers, £4 1,13 to £5 ss; cows, £4 to £5; dairy cows, £514s to £•!; grown steers, in low condition, £4 each. At hangarei, 011 Thursday, August 4, about the advertised number of cattle were yarded. Buyers were ill attendance l'rr all classes, particularly for well-bred store steers, for which class there remains .111 msatisfied demand. Dairy cows and heifers, 50 yarded, generally of poor quality and backward, they brought £2 10s to £4 7s 6d. Fat cattle were short of requirements. A draft of steers from Mr. Geo. Power's land, Matintt, averaged £7 17s; 2 to 2Jyr steers, £2 7s 6d to £3; choice 18 month steers, £2; mixed sexes, yearlings, 21s; store cows, £1 7s 6d to £3; medium draught mare, £15 ss; harness horse, £9 7s 6d; strong cob. £4 12s 6d; privately, fat steers, £7 ss; fat wethers, lis each. MASTEKTON. Messs. Lowes and lorns report:—At our horse sale last Saturday the rough weather prevailing of late had the effect of preventing several country, entries" coming forward. However, we submitted a catalogue of upwards of 50 horses, being principally heavy draughts, farm sorts, express, and tram kinds, and a few good upstanding weight carriers, and dog-cart sorts. Very few hacks wero offered. We bad a large representative attendance, with purchasers from Wellington and South Island. Sound heavy draughts, four to six years, sold freely, making £22 to £30; unbroken colts and fillies of the right sort made from £18 to £27; farm sorts were in good demand, selling from £18 to £24; active express or tram-horses. £14 to £13: good upstanding horses for dog cart or weightcarrying purposes, £13 to £18; hacks, according to age and quality, £3 to £6. At the close of tlio day. some three or four only remained unsold, and these were either very poor or ° l(l ' OICAIAWA AND MANAIA. . . The Eginont Farmers' Union, Limited, 'Hawera, report: —We held our monthly sale at Okiawa 011 tlve 4th inst.. when the yards were fairly well with cattle. We quote: Empty cows, £2 to £2 6s; 12 to 15-month heifers, £1 to £1 7s 6(1; weaners, 12s to 15s; sheep cull ewes, 4s 6d. On Friday, the sth inst we held a clearing sale 011 account of Mr ghrimpton. The stock were not 111 the best of condition, and therefore did not fetch verv high figures. We quote: Dairy cows, £2 to £8; dairy heifers, £1 15s to £3 ss; horses, £1 to £8 10s; Pigs, £1 103 to £0 12s. At Manaia 011 the 10th inst. the yards were well filled with stock. Bidding was dull throughout so that little stock changed hands at the hammer, but we managed to place several lines after the sale. We quote: Dairy cows. £2 12s 6d to .£3 10s; 12 to 15-months, £1 5s to £1 10s; heifers, £1 10s to £2 ss; weaners, 6s 6d to 12s. WANGANUI. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. re-port:-At Waverley on Friday sheep came forward in moderate numbers Two-tooth Lincoln ewes made 10s; two-tooth wethers, 9s 6d to 9s 8(1; hoggets, 5s 6d to 6s 3d. There was only a small entry of cattle; springers brought from £3 to £3 8s; fat heifers, £3 4s; yearling steers, 16s; weaners, Bs. Yesteruaj at St. Hill-street stock was limited. Cattle. Emntv 21-year heifers, 265; cows, springing to calf £2103 to £3. Sheep: For fat wethers there was a good demand, light weights making 13s Id; good store wethers made 10s 2d to 10s 6d; store and forward ewes, 5s 10(1 to 7s 3d' hoggets sold briskly at 6s Id to 7s 7d Pi"s- Pigs, numerous, were keenly competed throughout; choppers brought from Sis to 495; porkers, 12s to 275; stores, 8s to 12s ELTHAM AND HAWERA. Messrs Nolan, Tonks, and Co. report H'twera August 12: At Elthaui on the Btu inst ire had a good entry with good inquiry for voting steers; anything of that class sol - ing'freely. We held a cleaving sale of Mr. F McGovern'B dairy stock 011 the 10th inst. The cows and heifers were in good condition consequently fetching top prices.
