COMPENSATION FOR STOCK DESTROYED.

[BY TELEOIUrn.—MESS ASSOCIATION] Wellington, Thursday. A deputation, consisting Of the chairmen of the Taranaki, Clifton, (Stratford, and Hawera County Councils, waited on the Minister for Lands to-day, and asked him to push' through the House, as speedily as possible, a measure authorising payment of compensation to owners of stock destroyed by order of the inspector. They also suggested that certain paddocks in the neighbourhood of the principal saleyards should be gazetted as quarantine paddocks for lodging suspected cattle for inspection by the inspector. 'The Minister, in reply, stated he had a Bill prepared dealing with compensation for cattle destroyed by order of inspectors, and he intended bringing it forward as early as possible. He promised to give the question of quarantine paddocks careful consideration.
