THE CANADIAN MAIL. Tho Canadian mail steamer Aorangi left Wellington on Ap. 28 for Suva, Honolulu, and Vancouver, with the following passengers, booked from Wellington:—Saloon: Mioses Chaytor, Sband (2), Johnston (2), Fraser, Tytler, Inglis, Cowern (2), Fulton, Sheen, Astley, Adams, Mosdames Adams, Johnston, Wostwood, Dawson, Lane, Genoral Sir Fraser Tytler, Colonel Dawson, Messrs. Chaytor, Beajley, Jones, Swain, Johnston, Gould, Dutliie, Dawson (2), Coworn, Adams, Lane, Begg, Burke, Teoplos, Wilberton, Jacobson, Lambert, Richards, Ellis, Castleton, Smith, Miles, Watson, Bell, and 20 steerage. The vessel's freight from Wellington included 200 carcases moat and 50 tons produce. THE ALAMEDA. The American mail steamor Alameda, Cap- , tain K. Van Otoreudorp, arrived from San Francisco, Honolulu, and Apia at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, after a run of 18 days 13 hours, The steamer had a fair number of passengers for this port and Australia, and brought the usual consignments of American merchandise. The voyage of the steamer proved a very pleasant ono for all on board, fine weather being experienced all the way. Mr. Thomas Smith, the purser, to whom we are indobted for our files and despatches, reports: The Alameda left San Francisco at 3 p.m. on April 21, and arrived at Honolulu at 6 a.m. on the 28th. Resumed tho voyage at 1 p.m. the same date, and anchored in Apia Harbour at 7 a.m. on tho sth inst. Discharged cargo and took in a quantity of fruit, etc, and left for Auckland at noon the same date, and arrived as above. The Alameda left for Sydney at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. THE PAROO. ' The A.U.S.N. Company's steamer Paroo arrived from Sydney on Friday, April 15, and berthed at the Railway Wharf. The steamer is the latest addition to tho fine fleet of the A.U.S.N. Company, and is a sister ship to the Capo Otway, which visited this port about a month ago, and, like that steamer, was built for tho trade between Melbourne and West .Australia. She has about 40 passengers from Australia for Klondike, and 12 others join the steamer at this port for the same destination. THE STAR OF ENGLAND. The well-known Tyser liner Star of England, Captain G. W. Weech, arrived from London and Australian porta on Mon., April 25th, with a large quantity of general merchandise, from the Home port. As usual the steamer comes into port in excellent order in all departments, reflecting every credit upon Captain Weech and the deck officers, whilst Mr. Gerard, the chief engineer, and his subordinates are to bo congratulated upon the splendid order in which they have their department. ■ The American barque Evie Reed, Captain Whittier, arrived from New York on April 18, after a passage of 116 days, bringing 1220 tons of general merchandise. The vessel paid a previous visit to this port some years ago from New York. The American barque Mary Hasbrouck, Captain William Ludwigs, arrived.from Philadelphia on Sunday, April 17, with a cargo o kerosene and iron pipes, the latter being for the Auckland Gas Company. The barque has made the voyage in 123 days, and comes into port in the usual neat order for Which she .is noted. SHIPPING SUMMARY. The volume- of business in shipping circles still maintains good proportions, and the next month, owing to the expected arrivals of large steamers, will go far to keep up the average of tonnage. The coastal vessels are all fairly, well employed, but, owing to the large amount of coal being imported from Newcastle, the vessels employed in the coastal coal trade meet with much delay in the discharge of their cargoes. The bars in the. Bay of Plenty ports have been very bad for some time part, owing to the absence of a sufficiency of water to enable the steamers to get in and put, and, in

consequence, the shipments of Produce have been much reW ded. 1 heftm ne hey Cduld in the matter by having tenders t'OpSand Whakatane, to bring out to the larger steamers as much produce as pos"bio, but there is still a large, amount of maize in store at both places. The movement of vessels in and out of this port (hiring the pact month have been as follow: -The barque Wenona arrived from Newcastle oil April IS with coal, and has sinco loaded timber at the Thames for Melbourne, and is now ready to sail. On the 17th the American barque Mary Hasbtouck arrived • from New Yorik and Philadelphia, with a cargo of .kerosene and gas pipes. The vessel lias discharged cargo, and will load up with kauri gum and flax for New York shortly. The fame date -the barquentine Neptune arrived from Newcastle with'coal, on discharge of which she proceeded to the Kaipara, to load timber for Adelaide,, and is about ready for sea. On the 18th the American barquo Evie Reed arrived from New York direct, with a full general' cargo, which has been discharged, 'and the vessel is now loading kauri gum for New York, and is expected to sail about the end of next week. The s.s. Flora left for Fiji on the 19th, and returned on the- 4th Inst. On the 25th, the Tyser liner Star of England arrived from London and Australia, with general cargo, and on discharge proceeded South to complete her loading for London. The barquentine Rio arrived from Newcastle on the 26th with coal, and is now loading timber, etc., for Napier. The s.s. Hauroto arrived from Sydney and the Islands on the 27th, and left for the Eastern Pacific on the 11th inst. On the 30th the brig Vision arrived from Newcastle with coal, and has'since been docked for overhaul. The brigantino Aratapu arrived from Newcastle with coal on tlio 3rd inst., and is now ready to sail for Tainia, to load timber for Wellington, On the sth inst. the s.s. Ovalau, which has undergone an extensive overhaul, resumed her running between this port, the Islands, and Sydney. Tlio Union Company's steamer Upoln arrived from the Eastern Pacific on the 9th inst., and left for Wellington the next day. This steamer is to be placed in the trade between Auckland and Fiji, replacing' the Flora. The mail steamer Alameda arrived from San Francisco, Honolulu, and Apia, on the 11th, with the English and American mails, and left for Sydney the same evening. The Tysor liner Star of Now Zealand has arrived at Melbourne from London, and is due at tin's - port shortly. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Dolphin, from London, loft Capetown for Auckland on Monday last, and is due about June 4.
