THE DOG TAX CASES.

KonuKonu, Thursday.' Tee dog tax cases against the Maoris, including several of the prisoners, have been adjourned until next Court day. The countyclerk, at whose instigation the cases were laid, protested against further postponement, but the Court decided it was inadvisable to proceed with the cases at the present time, It is stated that a large and representative meeting of Maoris was held at Waima last night, when it was unanimously decided not to pay the tax, and to go to gaol if the cases wore proceeded with. : Telegrams have just been received that the lutanekai, which was barbound in the Kaipara, had succeeded in crossing, and should bo off Hokianga bar at midnight. It is unlikely that she will be brought inside until to-morrow morning, • but in any case the Auckland artillery, police, and prisoners will leavo to-morrow, as if tho Tutanekai is unable to get inside tho bar, they will leave by the Glenelg, which arrived at Rawene this afternoon, and leaves for Auckland tomorrow. Everything is quiet at Waima, and the settlers tlioro and at Omanaia and Raweno have all returned to their homes. Mr. Hone Heke has returned to Waima, where ho will remain for some time, and confer with the natives to prevent the recurrence of the trouble. Several interesting views of scenes of tho troublo of the troops on the march, and of the prisoners, were taken by the photographer for tho Auckland Weekly News." The Premier lias received a telegram from Tamahau Mahupuku, a Wairorapa chief, congratulating him on the settlement of the Raweno difficulty and his firmness in maintaining tho law; also, explaining, that in view of this, ho did not carry out his announced intention of going up himself with his young men.
