THE ENCROACHMENT BY THE SEA.
[B¥ TELEGRAPH.— association]. Ddnkdijt, Thursday. At a meeting to-day of tho Domain Board to consider the matter of tho inroad of the sea, it was stated that thoplaco wheroit broko through, near tho battory, was Government) property, and not under the care of the Board. " It was resolved to call the attention of the Minister of Defence to tho Board's letters of July and September, 1897, calling attention to tho danger to tho residents of the flat owing to the drift of sand caused by the position of the central fort, and suggesting a remedy for such danger. It was also agreed that the Minister be informed that the anticipated danger has now been realised, and that an incursion of the sea has occurred, causing very soriouß injury to property and to the inhabitants of theflat district, and, as theßonrd are credibly informed, to tho battery itself. The Board, under these circumstances, request that stops be immediately taken by tho Government to place tho property and lives of the inhabitants of tho flat district beyond tho reach of danger.
