FOOTBALL.
The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union was held at the Metropolitan Hotel last evening, Mr. T. Henderson, chairman, presiding. An application for D. Gage to play for Suburbs district was considered and granted. Referees' and grounds for Saturday were arranged for as under:— Ponsonby v. Parnell, No. 1 ground, A. Campbell; Grafton v. City, No. 2, Edmonds; Newton v. North Shore, at Devonport, Katterns. Second fifteens: Ponsonby v. Parnell, No. 3 ground, Major; Grafton v. City, No. 4, Beck; North Shore v. Newton, No. 5, Pelham. Third fifteens: City B v. Suburbs B, at Ellerslie, Walker; Parnell B v. Ponsonby A, No. 6 ground, Mackie; Newton B v. City A, No. 7, Bower; Parnell Av. Ponsonby B, No. 8, Keefe; North Shore A v. Grafton, No. 9, Surman; North Shore B v. Newton A, at Northcote, Knox. It will he seen from the above that the competitions for the third fifteens have been redrawn, this being due to the fact that the City district has entered a second fifteen in this series. A meeting of the Referees' Association was last night held at the Metropolitan Hotel, Mr. F. J. Ohlson in the chair. There was a good attendance of members, and the rules of the game created an animated discussion. Referees for the public schools' matches for Saturday were appointed as under':— section: Beresford-street v. Mount Eden, A. Campbell; Wellesley-street A v. Napierstreet, Beck; Parnell v. Devonport, Pitt; Grafton v. Ponsonby, Ohlson; Newton East v. Newton West, Bower. B section: Welles-ley-street v. Napier-street,.Mackie; Newmarket v. Richmond Road, Pelham; Nelsonstreet v. Onehunga,' Kay.^
The usual' fortnightly meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held yesterday afternoon at the Central Mission Hall. . A lp.rge company of ladies gathered to meet Mrs.' Sheppard, of Christehnrch. ; The social, purity superintendent reported that arrangements bad been mado for a coffee supper, to which Sunday • school teachers of senior girls' classes are to be invited. ' Mrs. Robb, \of 1 Sydney, gave valuable information as to her experience in this department. Bible classes are being held in the Ponsonby State schools, and an appeal was made for more workers. Mrs. Sheppard, in the course of her address, dealt at some length with . the questions of the appointment of women as charitable aid inspectors, old age pensions, the reintroduction of the C.D. Acts, as proposed by the Medical Congress of. Christeburcli,"' and the disabilities of women.• An invitation to members of the .
