Not long ago wool stealing was being extensively carried on from the droughtreduced sheep throughout Victoria and Riverina. Not content with stealing the skins and wool from the dead sheep, some enterprising practitioners hurried matters up among the living sheep by the use of dogs. Among illustrative paragraphs appearing in the provincial press, the Horsham Times says;— men who are alleged to have been carrying on the nefarious business described above have just been arrested on a charge of the larceny of the wool of 35 sheep belonging to the Longerenong Station, lliey were brought up at the Murtoa Police Court and remanded to the Ararat Gaol for a week. One of the men by a coincidence is under summons to appear at the Horsham ■lolice Court to answer an information charging him with being the owner of we unregistered dogs. The men were found with a dray load of wool, and the constable has since discovered their camp in a secluded spot in the Grampians, with 20 skins of valuablo sheep hidden in the heart of a tree not far away."
